Hello, I`m writing from Venezuela. I would like to know if anybody has made the cloed back mod to the Hot Rod DEville.

I want to make it. But i would like to have a step by step guide from a more experimented guy. i`ve read that needs to be ported, and there is some measurements to make for obtain the size of the port. Anybody have information????

I`dont find anything in the net. Only found the ported mod to the Flextone III.

I think it would have to be like this, this is a Blues Jr. Just make the mod relevant to your amp, if they expanded the Blues Jr. into your Hot Rod, how big would the port be? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/ ... uesJr3.jpg .

I hope there's a fan in there. The Hot Rod series pbs are prone to heat relates issues. I know, I've had them. I would have done a head and cabinet.
Really nice cabinet though.

Well, If it has heat issues, you'd want to not close the back, or you'd get more heat issues. My advice, make a small tube guard, that only covers of the tubes and not any more. That'll keep your amp cool.

You would have to scale the Hot Rod to a Blues Jr. mentally. I wish I could give more advice, but thats all I can say.

Yes, i`ll scale the Blues Jr. to the HRD. I`ll place the port to match the tubes section, to keep them the coolest possible.

Also, someone told me they keep a fan behind their tubes to keep them cool, I think it legnthens their life.

My initial reaction is don't close the back. Those tubes get hot and the HRD might not be able to handle that kind of a change.

Yes google "vacuum tube" operating temperatures
http://science.jrank.org/pages/7139/Vacuum-Tube.html
http://books.google.ca/books?id=DSHSqWQXm3oC&pg=PA311&lpg=PA311&dq=%22vacuum+tube%22+operating+temperatures&source=web&ots=o_JSIIFD5J&sig=pG1ZNnPtnfOzcebxkYCRAdpikD4&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=10&ct=result#PPA311,M1

The heated elements in the tubes can run at over 1000c, you do not want to cut off their ability to cool off.

If you want a closed back speaker cabinet I'd be inclined to move the amp to its own well ventilated head cabinet.

Next thing is not all speakers can work in both a open and a closed cabinet.
You will need to visit the speaker vendor to get the specs to see if your speaker can be used in a closed cabinet, and get the cabinet displacement volumes required to provide the correct loading for the driver.
