Is it neccesarry to use this or can I just run my pedals into my main input. I tried hooking to the effects loop and it didn't really seem to work. Am I hurting my amp?

Just run the guitar -> into the effects -> into the amp in,
many amps don't even have a effects loop in/out :)

A good pedal to stick into the preamp out/poweramp in is a volume pedal.
That way you can run the preamp cranked at the level you want it and control the final volume with the pedal.

I have heard that distortion and wah effects work better through the front end of the amp, and chorus/modulator effects work better in the effects loop. Why the wah won't work in the effects loop, I don't know, perhaps I got it wrong. I tried running all of my effects in the effects loop of my Blues Deluxe and it simply didn't work. Apparently using the effects loop will help a musician maintain the integrity of his amp's tone. I'm interested to hear what others have to say.

Here is great site on Guitar Amp Tone, Effects Placement

Run your effects through your amp input. One of the posters was right hwne he said put your wah in front of your distortion/gain pedals and place your time based effects (chous, delay) after. Most amp manufacturers tell you to use the effects loop and most effects gurus tell you to avoid the loop because every amp manufacturer builds the loop different and pedal manufacturers simply give up guessing and assume the pedal will receive a raw guitar signal. See, here's the problem, some amps push too much power through the loop and overload the pedals. Other amps lack power and your signal will degrade (muscians will say they are losing tone). The hi-end boutique amps are equipp their loops with buffers to account for the varierty in pedals and needs of the musicians. Your Deluxe has a good loop but, in my experience with the amp, is too powerful for some pedals. Best to go through the amp input.

Some loops work great with some pedals, not with others. Just run through the front.

You can run your wah first or your distortion/od first (I prefer the wah first), then your chorus/flange/phase, then delay/reverb.

I run my Electro Harmonix Stereo Memory Man through the effects loop of my '98 Vibro King. To my ear the chorus effect sounds better there than at the end of my chain of effects pedals. The point is to experiment with the placement of effects and see what works best in your particular situation.

If you want, just run time based pedals like echo, phase shifter, flanger etc into the loop. Run your distortion, fuzz, boosters and wah pedals to the regular input.

Alright, this may sound stupid, by I just picked up a HRDLX and can't figure out which input is for the effects loop. The only other Fender amp I had with an effect loop clearly stated "effects loop." Is it the inputs next to the foot switch input?

I own a HRDX........ go out from the "pre amp out" to the guitar imput on the pedal/s.......the "out" of the pedals, back to the "power amp in" on the amp. I also use a Digitech GNX 3000 for some gigs. Plug the guitar into the processor and simply run it from the processor ...............to the "power amp in" ONLY. Hope this helps. <+><

Hello. I have a Fender Hot Rod Deville (i think has the same fx loop as the deluxe).

The Voodooamp people has a mod that is an upgrade to the fx loop of the Deville and Deluxe. Does anybody knows about this mod? it seems involves changing the components that belongs to the fx loop circuit. Does anybody knows which are this components in the amp? I find the Fx loop of this amps to be too bright!
