I have a Ultimate Chorus fender amp and, when I play it. It makes this static like sounds. It only does it when I turn it on. Or when I play. What do you guys think it is? Is it the speakers. I've had it for 8 years now.

Well, which is it? you hear it when you play or it's just the amp doing it while it's on or both?

If it's only when you play, then it's probably a ground problem with your guitar. If it's just the amp, then it could be getting some interference from somewhere, like maybe lighting or something like that.

I'm not sure if this could be the solution.
I had noticed this sound when in a studio. It drove me crazy because it was there also when I bypassed the amp and went straight to the board and it only seemed to happen when I played or rubbed the pickaguard.

Problem: The pickguard sometimes develop a "static" charge and crackle when the pickguard is stroked, e.g., when strumming or picking. Your pickups will amplify this.

Solution: Believe it or not!! Take a dryer sheet (Bounce or some other) and rub the pickguard with it. This will remove the static charge as it does in the dryer for your clothing. Works great in cars to remove the charge from the seats and door handles too.

I hope this helps and you find nothing wrong with you amp or guitar.

It's time to buy some electronic spray cleaner (like CRC QD electronic cleaner) and spray all the pots out.

If you remove the knobs and spray it down the shafts then work the knob back and forth you may find that the problem clears right up.

Even though there doesn't appear to be any clearance between the shaft and pot body, the high pressure propellant will result in penetration of the cleaner, and if you work the pots back and forth all the way in both directions it will clean them well.

The cleaner is flammable and electrically conductive so make sure the amp is unplugged and that you allow the cleaner time to evaporate before powering up.

Thanks guys! The problem is that when I turn the amp on. It makes like a eeek! type noise and, when I play. It just sounds horrible. I know the speakers are good 'cause I tested them.
I just don't know why it sounds like wires fighting each other.
Oh, and it's not my guitar. I've played other guitars to see if it was that. They all have the same result with the amp. In other amps the guitars sound perfect.

This definitely sounds like dirty pots, or a short somewhere in the amp. Clean out the pots like described above and see if that doesn't fix it.
