Im a lifelong marshalldevotee, Im not gigging much at the mo and the other day bought a new vibrochamp. I'm completely unfamiliar with fender amps and need to know a few things. the owners manual is very vague.

1, theres no standby switch on the amp, is lowering the volume and gain to minimum sufficient to protect the valves when powering up and down.

2,Is there anyway to bypass the modelling section and just get the amp natural sound.

3, there is no visible bias pot inside, whats the deal with re-valving? Just bung another 6v6 in and away you go?

any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure about questions #1 and #3, but there is no way to bypass the DSP on either the VCXD or the SCXD. The SCXD has two channels and I assumed channel #1 was a clean channel bypassing the DSP, but I was wrong. Not sure why Fender did this.

contrary to popular belief, the pre-amp section of a all valve amp is dificult and expensive to produce initialy. The circuit of the pre-amp affects tone a lot more than most valve cork sniffers will admit. Putting a dsp preamp onto it is a decent cheap option that probably costs a lot less to design. That said the poweramp section of the amp is superb and really has a nice breakup about it. which im sure is geared up to compliment the preamp to the maximum.

Incidentaly Steve which is your fave preamp setting, I really like the driven twin and the normal bassman. I use the driven twin clean though. The slight growl is great.

My favorite is the driven Tweed (#3) for the single-coil Fenders, but sometimes it's a bit too much for the HB-equipped guitars so I drop down to #2. I live in a condo so I use #2 more than I want to.
