I have the Ibanez tubescreamer 808 and it works great. Didn't like the TS9 as much, but I heard about mods for the ts9.

I love the TS-9 tubescreamer. I play it through a number of amps, both SS, and tubes, including a Blues jr. It is one of the most popular Drive pedals sold and suits a wide range of music. It's not for a metal, heavy shredding sound though, so your choice of music will influence the best pedal for you.

If you are not gigging, and do not need to switch from clean to "grit" on the fly, the Blues jr. can be made to sound dirty by just readjusting the vol. and master knobs.

Have a look at the Maxon OD-9.
http://www.maxonfx.com/9/od9/
Maxon used to make the innards for the Ibanez Tube Screamers until Ibanez found a way to make them cheaper somewhere else.

The Maxon OD-9 has the same chip as the original TS and can usually be found for a bit less $.

I agree on the Maxon recs, they have a true bypass. The OD808 is essentially a TS808 with a true bypass. You should try them and the TS9 to see which would best suit what you want.

Check out the MI Audio Crunch Box. It may be a little overkill for what you're looking for but it actually cleans up nicely when the gain is dialed down low.

You might try the Tonebone Radial Classic. I find it to be highly versatile. I can dial in everything from SRV grit to Van Halen heavy over drive. It utilizes an actual 12ax7 tube and does a great job of complementing my Blues Deluxe RI. It is a little more expensive than the TS-9 and most of the other stomp boxes previously mentioned.

Hi, I have a Blues Jr also. I have tried a Boss Blues Driver, Super Overdrive, Fulltone Fulldrive 2 (pre-mosfet), and my latest is a Diamond J-Drive Mk 3. Oh, I also have a Zvex Super Duper 2-n-1. I like the Zvex and the Diamond J-Drive best as they do not change the tone of the guitar much (to my ears) and have nice clean overdriven sounds. The Zvex is purely a pair of cascading gains and pushes the amp into overdrive nicely. Watch out though, as you can easily blow up the amp as the Zvex will produce 3600X signal gain to the amplifier turned all the way up. I'll be honest and say I haven't tried a tube screamer, but I really like the Zvex Super Duper and the Diamond J-Drive with these two I have definitely found my overdrive tone!

Try the Danelectro Daddy-O
Lots of parameters with the 3 tone knobs (treb, mid, bass); all kinds of good tones and grit in there, if you tweak it right (and the manual gives you some good starting points for specific tones!).

...and they're cheap, too!

Good Vibes To Y'all! 8)

Tubescreamers great, but if you want something a little edgier, I've been really impressed with the Digitech Screamin' Blues.

I play a strat and 2 tele's into a hotrod...Although the crunch is good enough on here...I just picked up a Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive...and I love it....So yeah...my vote goes to a Sparkle Drive...
