I'm relatively new to playing guitar. Can you anybody give me some ideas of a good amp for playing hard rock and metal music? I probably wouldn't want to spend more than about $400. I have a stock Mexican strat, a Dean Razorback, and a Dean ML 79.

Welcome to the Forum.

My best advice is to go check out the different amps in your price range and find one that fits your style of playing and sounds good to you.

I totally agree with the previous poster and would add that I like the Super Champ XD which I think is in your price range. You get both tubes and versatility. But of course, play any amp before you buy it. Good luck to you!

You may be able to find a used ProSonic for $400. I saw one recently on my craigslist. But try out a bunch of amps to see what you like, then go from there. There is plenty available in your price range used.

I would reccomend buying something really really
cheap if you dont have any amp at all for now anyway
and save up more cash and get something that will satisfy
your needs now and in the future. Like a tube amp.

My friend has a Roland Cube 15 watt. It's great for the metal tone he has.

Roland Microcubes are nice, but they're kind of expensive (can you say $230 for a 15W?). A Marshall MG30DFX is a 30W amp for about the same price, and it comes close to having all the same effects.

Kind of a personal preference-type thing I guess. My only problem is the Marshall I mentioned is a bit dry for playing clean, which really...REALLY bothers me. But the Marshall also has a nice driven sound, the Microcube has a decent-sounding clean.

Aw heck buy a Fender amp and a distortion pedal. 8)

Me I like the Vox AD series amps and the Roland Cubes in that price range. I have a Vox AD15, Roland cube 30X, Vox AC30, Budda Super Drive 30 and I tinker with the Cube 30x the most, the Budda and the one Vox sound best when loud plus they cost much more then your 400 range.
I wish I would have bought the 18 watt super drive which I may be trading for anytime now.

Someone I know offerd me 1500 for the Budda.Thats like 300 less then they sell for but thats what I paid for it used when it was 3 months old. I am going to sell that and buy a new Budda 18watt superdrive they are like 1400 new.

$400 for a fairly nice Prosonic WHERE? Most Prosonics I see if in even decent shape will bring $650 and up depending on which one it is. A realy nice early LO prefix CS Red or Green lizard halfstack will bring $1500 or more if MINT.
