With so many new digital amps, I was wondering how many tube "purists" (if you will) are still around.

I *used* to be a tube purist, but found that the cyber-series digital presets with DSP effects, mono and stereo patching capabilities, MIDI and digital tuners are great sounding amps.

From a reviewer -

"The Cyber Series utilizes Fender's patented Virtual Tone Interpolation circuitry. By internally reconfiguring the basic signal building blocks and tone stacks of whichever preset amplifier is selected, this patented technology offers superb real amplifier tone. "

I'm kinda itching to try out the new Fender EVH III 1/2 stack. 8)

I currently have a BUDDA SD45 series II twin combo amp, I have to tell you that it literally screams TONE. When you hammer those #7 matched pair Shuguang GT-KT-66-C's HOLY KRAP... you're in for a ride! Tons of headroom & a response to pick attack & palm muting that has to be experienced to be believed. The Punch goes right through you. This is absolutely one of the best sounding amps that I have ever heard!

I have never in 45 years of playing electrics come across any simulated preset that can duplicate this experience.

TUBES RULE

I have one of each (Fender Blues Jr and Roland Cube 60) and I'm fine with that.

Gotta go with the tubes.

I am fortunate to own both a Cyber Deluxe and a HRDV 410. I've run them side by side in many types of settings (live, jams, practice, indoor, outdoor, etc...). I don't consider myself a tube snob, but in the side by side tests, the tubes win (although it is very close).

The Cyber is a good amp and definitely blows away any competition in this category, but I use the HRDV as my main amp. Typically, the Cyber stays in the case as a backup.

Recording is where the Cyber really shines. You can get such a variety of tone at reasonable volumes, I find it invaluable for multitracking.

WOW!!! This is an easy question. Let me think  ...........TUBES!!!

There will never be a replacement for good ole' tubes. I will admit that they've come pretty darn close imitating tubes, some people might not even be able to tell the difference between a good solid state and tubes, but the difference is definetly there, and it always will be.

Yep, tubes for me.......I'll never switch (or in other words, go back hahahaha)..........unless they do something stupid, like quit making tubes. Man, that'd be terrible.

there's room for both in the tool kit.
tubes are better in general, but for low volume and flexibility, the ss modelling amps are good.

I'd love to see that new Super Champ XD (which has tubes and digital modelling) be available with a USB output. 8)

I have both. Here is my opinion. For noodling and decent tone at low volumes, solid state all the way.

For the ultimate warn tone and breakup, tubes.

I have tried solid state over and over trying to like it, no matter which one I try it always sounds like a cheap radio to my ears.

Tube powered amps have an alive organic sound to them that SS cant duplicate.

cyber twin comes as close as any, but it has tubes in the pre-amp.
