None here seem to carry much stock in Fender amps.

I've set my limit at about 15watts for a practice / recording / visiting amp.

I have been scurrying from one store to another trying to A/B the few on my list and nowhere do I find a store with more that 1 of the amps on my shortlist. Grrrr.

The current order of preference is
Blues Junior (15w)
Super Champ (15w)
Princeton Reverb (15w, expensive and the one I heard sounded too "twangy" for blues)
Blues Deluxe (40w out of range for power output)

I've pretty well settled on the Blues Junior, but would still like to find them all in one place somewhere so I could give them a bit of a sound comparison.

Oh well weekend is coming and I will make another round of the stores to see if their stock has changed. Maybe just give up and bring a Jr. home.

I have two of the four of your list:

Blues JR
Champ XD

The champ XD has a great feature set for the $$. I also have a Champion 600 and a Blackheart Little Giant combo. My favorite of the four is actually (don't throw stones... i love Fender) the Blackheart. It has a great sound and the 3w/5w switch gives two very distinct voices and it takes effects really well. However, I do not think you can go wrong with a Blues JR either.

Just my humble opinion

I recently played through a friends Carvin Vintage 16 combo and was quite impressed with the tone. At $399 for an all tube amp it seems like a very good deal. He bought it about three months ago and loves it.

Ya I've looked at some of those amps.

The Blackhearts did sound good.
I've also poked at similar powered tube amps from Orange, Crate and Koch.

The Koch Twintone II was very nice can switch between 50 watts and 25 watts output.
But is way out of the price league I was planning on :D
The Crates are surprisingly inexpensive for tube amps, but their sound is harsher more marshalley than I think I want.

Haven't seen anyone caring a Carvin

Lots of Line-6, Mesa, Orange, Crate, Rivera, Traynor, Epiphone, Hi-Watt and Marshal amps to be found in the stores here to look at, just not any with a good range of the fender amp lineup.
Even the big chains here like Long&Mcquade have lots of amps on the floor but only a few Fenders in the mix.

I have a Tolex Blues Junior...
My brother has the NOS Blues Jr...
The NOS (tweed) has a different speaker that isn't as bright)
Personally I like the NOS...
(I am probably going to upgrade the speaker in mine.)

I would say get a Blues Junior NOS (thats just my opinion)...
Hook through ur pedal board & ur set! You could mic it up & play anywhere with it or record.

The Saga gets more annoying
 I must be under a curse

Went to all the major music shops I normally skulk in around Toronto.

Steves Music (Large old music shop in downtown Toronto) : no Blues Juniors and I guess everyone was to busy to chat with me.
Long&McQuade (Large music chain in Canada): No Blues Juniors, tried to sell me a brand I never heard of.
Cosmo Music (huge music shop): no Blues Juniors, They did have a Princeton reverb and a Blues deluxe, tried to sell me an other brands solid state.

Finally at The Arts Music shop
They would actually spend some time and talk to me.
They were also sold out of the Blues Juniors and told me they were on back order as they are having troubles getting more than one or two every now and then. And they sell as fast as they get them in.
So I am "on the list" to get a call to come pick up the next one that comes in.
They also said they can no longer get the NOS version.
So I will be swapping the speaker out myself, probably for a Cannabis REX
Total cost including speaker swap will come to just about the same as the NOS would have.

So now I am anxiously awaiting a phone call!

Saga ends.

No Blues Junior came in with this weeks September shipment and they could not even make a guess in which coming week they might get one.

So I gave in and up-sized (like McDonald's) my order, and took "the" Blues Deluxe they did have in stock.

Came with a nice cover and foot-switch and a fair bit more power than I had wanted.

Got home at 1am, now can't wait for morning so I can give it a try out.
