My wife and I are moving from the US to Spain. I'm wondering if there is a way to use my amp with the European electrical standard, 120V 60Hz vs 240V 50Hz? I can get a voltage transformer to lower the voltage to 120 but will this hurt the amp?

Thanks

Step-up transformers are available and are perfectly safe for audio equipment. Just be sure to select one with sufficient power capacity for your amp -- two hundred and fifty watts is probably sufficient.

According to Fender's owner's manual for this model, the amp draws 180 watts max.

If manual say, it is a good answer.

I calculate 2 amps fuse X 120 volts = 240 Watts

240 WATTS?

A Super Reverb (a mighty amp with a pair of 6L6GC's and trannies larger than your fist) only draws 175 watts.

You better go back to school, pal!

Spain is in Europe. 240v/ 50Hz is a UK standard...the continent is 220v

I am currently in France. I just switched on my APC Back-UPS Pro 1500 and my display is reading 221v...it fluctuates from 217 to 230 at times...but for the most part it is sitting between 221-224v

I have a few 110 devices, but no amps. The best units I have are Lexicon PCM80 and 81. Those units allow both 110 or 220/240 supply; there is a sensor which allows for both/all three voltages.

I have been considering which amps to buy...I was thinking to go Friedman Dirty Shirley...but it just doesn't make sense...I'm gonna go European builder.

All my Fender amps I have now are EU compliant. If I was you, OP, I'd buy an amp in Europe =-)

If you so smart explain me why my calculation is wrong.
And then no I prefer not to read you anymore, you are too rude

P = E ( 120 ) x I (2 amp fuse) = 240 watts

1- My calculation tell maximum power ( from wall outlet ) before fuse blow. I know amplifier power need are less.

2- Buying a more powerfull stepdown transfomer is not wrong. It will work.
It is just more expensive and heavy

If you're so smart why aren't YOU working for Fender?

For the ignorance of others I am blameless.

While I was stationed in Germany with the USAF I gigged with US equipment. A Step-up transformer of 250 watts was plenty for my '84 2x10 Concert. Never any issues and the amp is still plugging away. I had it serviced a year ago and besides new power tubes and a couple pre-amp tubes, nearly everything on the board was still within factory spec.

I think the OP will be fine with Arjay's (And My) recommendation here. Can't beat real world experience on this one.

Thank you everyone. This is the information I was in need of.

Someone elsewhare mentioned to me that the transformer inside the amp can be changed as well and they thought that Fender had a "kit" or at least the correct parts available. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Fender has designed power transformers in the past that were intended to be installed in equipment destined for export markets but you'd need to contact them directly to learn the particulars.
