My wife and I retired to Natural Bridge, Virginia in May 2019. The house had an unfinished room above the garage. It has now finally been finished into my new guitar and amp studio.

That's a gorgeous studio/shop, Bill.

Congrats on a fine job!

Thanks guys. Appreciate the comments.

After 40+ years working as a contractor for the DOD and every three letter US government agency there is (wink, wink), fighting traffic every day, and dealing with unfriendly people, we decided it was time to leave Northern Virginia and head for the hills. Literally.

Natural Bridge is about 15 minutes from Lexington Virginia, home of Virginia Military Institute (General Patton's alma mater before going to West Point) and Washington & Lee University. We used to vacation near Lexington and decided it would be the perfect place to retire to. So far we have been right.

Here is a link to my Flickr page with more photos of our house for anyone interested.

Now that my studio is finished, my next big decision is what amp to build next. Its been a few years since the last one. I have built a 5F6A Bassman clone, a 5F1 Champ clone, and a Trainwreck Express clone, as well as modified the Fender Champion 600 Reissue and Blues Deluxe Reissue (all documented in this forum). Right now I'm trying to decide between a Marshall Plexi, 5E8A Tweed Twin, or Dumble Overdrive Special clone. So many amps, but now I have a lot more time.

Once I decide, I may once again document the build here.

I leave you with a photo of the view from my front porch. And no, I did not use a filter. :D

P.S.: My wife hates the phrase "man cave".

Thanks. Except for the great room/home theater and guitar studio, my wife did all the interior design. I just put stuff where she told me to.

 I know how that goes. I can tell which side of the couch is yours by where the remotes are.

Thanks CB and Stratele.

Markey, actually we're pretty good at sharing the remote. But, my seat is the "sweet spot" where all the speakers in the home theater point.

Also, I'm trying to work a deal with the local music shop in Lexington to do amp repairs and electronics work (rewiring, pickup replacement, etc.) on guitars. I'm waiting on delivery of an oscope that uses my laptop as the display device and a new audio signal generator. My old oscope and sig gen are at end of life having bought them used years ago on Ebay. The new ones should be pretty cool. There is a lot of music activity in the area so I'm sure I can find some work as well as just enjoying the local music scene now that work on the house is done. Not looking to make a lot of money, just would like to keep busy.

Now what amp shall I build next? Plexi, low power Tweed Twin (an LPTT through four 12" Greenbacks might be pretty cool), or Dumble ODS (most expensive of the three and may require the most convincing of the wife to build). Thinking about it, the LPTT through my second 4x12 cab (16 ohm Greenback speakers all wired in parallel to give the required 4 ohms) is sounding pretty cool. Maybe best of both American and British worlds. Hmmm.
