Greetings!

Even though I've been playing for over 20 years I've never owned a tube amp... until last week when I bought a used year-old Deville 2x12.

We miked one of the speakers when recording at band rehearsal the day I got it and as fate would have it, the recording sounded like crap and we realized the speaker that was miked was a dud.

I ordered 2 replacement speakers and they'll be here in a week. My question is: am I going to harm anything by playing through one speaker for the time being? I've heard warnings about impedance mismatch and whatnot, and there seems to be very mixed response about it.

Opinions? Thanks ahead of time!

If that amp is 8 ohm you can get away with playing a single 16 ohm speaker for a short period of time. I recommend playing at lower volumes and cleaner settings.

Thanks! One more thing (sorry, as I mentioned I'm a tube amp rookie) - what sort of risks am I putting my amp at if I do this? I'll only be playing at apartment/slightly louder than talking level until I get the new drivers.

Running mis-matched speaker imedence will put undue stress on the output transformer. HOWEVER using the amp at lower volume it would take more than a week or so to do any damage. Fender Amps will handle the mis-matched impedence better than most amps.
