Interested in downsizing from a Super Reverb 65 Reissue to a Deluxe Reverb Reissue. Backface v. Silverface? Go!

Don't buy Custom series buy '65 reissue Blackface.

So are you asking this ... which of the following reissue amps?

BLACKFACE
'65 Deluxe Reverb
'64 Custom Deluxe Reverb

SILVERFACE
’68 Custom Deluxe Reverb

The hand-wired '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb is probably the pick of the litter.

I read so much testimony from people dissatisfied with the Custom series.
Never with the 65 Deluxe reverb ; a great amp

Sounds like you are referring to the 68 series. The 64 is in a whole other league, nothing like the 68.

BTW, only one is a "reissue", and that is the 65, the other two mentioned are NOT reissues.

The result of Fender's murky marketing. The same company that made a guitar and called it "Mustang" and then made an amp ... and called it "Mustang".

or, if you want to check out something different, visit the website for vintage sounds amps. they are also sold thru humbucker music. pricing around the same as fender, and hand wired.

I am thinking of ordering their mvp40. a 40 watt deluxe reverb based amp with 6l6 tubes. they also have 6v6 versions that are close to a d.r.

either way, good luck in your hunt.

It has to be a Blackface but then I am biased as that is what I use. Crystal clear at lower volumes but if you can play loud enough to get the tubes breaking up then it just gets better.

For those times when I can't get natural tube breakup I use a Wampler Black '65 and believe me it is indistinguishable from the real thing!

Thanks, all. Yes, to be clear, I'm surveying the '65 and '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb reissues. I've played both. I loved the '68 the first time I played it, but I do love a Blackface. I've owned a '66 Showman and the Super reissue as well as a '70 Champ.

Can anyone comment on any apparent differences in tremolo between the '65 and '68 RI's? (I know we all obsess over these details)

I'll just have to devote more time to A/B'ing the Deluxes...sounds like a productive Saturday to me.

For the record, only the '65 is a RI, the others are not. The '68 is a "Vintage Modified" series amp, the '64 is hand wired, not like either of the other two amps.

The main tremolo difference is that you have it, and reverb, on both channels of the '68 VM, while only available on one channel of the '65.
