Hello guys, i'm new to the forums, pleased to be here.

I am also new to valve amplifiers. So I bought this Fender Excelsior, love the sound. Looks brand new, good deal, at least I think. The amp makes a very audible and sometimes straight out very loud noise.

The noise reduces in intensity when I touch a conducting part in the circuit: guitar strings, bridge, tuners, metal in the amp, etc. I tried another guitar in my amp and it also made noise, and then tried this same guitar and my guitar in another amp (Fender Super Reverb) and both made no noise.

As the noise reduces when I touch it, I thought it could be a ground defect. Took it to a technician (who is supposed to be the best in my city) and he found nothing at all. I am still not convinced.

The noise happens even when no input is connected. Gets louder as I turn up the volume. At 0 volume, it makes no noise.

The noise is like a buzzing/humming that sometimes like cracks. Also at mid ranges (playing around the 3rd and 4th strings around the 6th fret) I hear the amp like "breathing". As I'm new, this is my first experience with a valve amp, I'm not sure if some of these noises are normal or not.

I would appreciate if you could tell me what noises are normal and which ones aren't and, if possible, how to fix them.

Here are the links to two videos demonstrating the sound. Note that when I switch from the DARK to the BRIGHT channel, the noise increases in intensity.

Thank you for your time!

Much love,
Juan

I did not listen videos. I don't like the link.

1- Return on warranty
2- Often it is a noisy tube (s) , put new good one

Did your repair man try new tubes ?

Oh, sorry about the links. For the future, is there a better way to send them?

The repair man did not try new tubes. He said they were fine. I am not so sure. Everything I've read appears to indicate that maybe the problem is causes by faulty pre amp tubes.

I fix amps since 25 years.

The only ( and easy ) way to test a noisy tubes is to put a new good one.

I can't understand why a amp tech did not do that.
He may know someting about this amp I don't know. Did he work on many Excelsior before ?

You did not answer about the amp warranty.
Order two JJ ECC83 and try them in your amp .Only $13 each
