Hi guys!

I just bought a Fender Custom 68 Vibrolux. Great amp, which a Finally found at a good price, since it was being sold after being returned by a customer. I spoke to the retailer and they told me the amp was supposedly as good as new.

However, when i tried it at home, something weird happened with the treble knob on the "Custom" channel. Sometimes when i dialed up the treble, the whole low end dissappeared from the amp, as well as lowering the volume. It sounded like only the high frequencies remained and they "swallowed" up the bass as I turned up the treble. No problems on the other (vintage) channel.

This only happened a few times, but I'm sure it can't be right. If the problem persists, I'll call the retailer. But does anyone know what might be the problem? Faulty EQ circuit or something? I hope it's an easy fix...

Thanks!

Now you know why it was a "customer return".

Ditch the thing and buy one that's sealed-in-a-carton brand-new.

Don't let somebody else's problem become yours.

The simple cure is to replace the treble control.
The Treble control should be called the tone control. The treble signal is connected to the top and the bass is connected to the bottom. The mix of the two comes out the wiper in the middle. If the bass signal is lost, it will do just as you describe. It could be a loose rivet on the control that can be tightened up with a pair of pliers. It could be a cold solder joint on the control. Replacing the control will probably do the trick.
