I have a few new Fender amps with nice reverb. I also have a '60's Gibson Hawk amp with amazing reverb - drippy, fluttery, kind of out there. 1st, could I run, for example, the RCA cords that go in and out of the reverb tank from my '65 Deluxe Reverb in and out of the reverb tank in the Hawk without damaging anything? 2nd, would it make any difference? Do the actually tank and springs make the reverb sound like it does or is it the circuitry in the amp (it has all original Lowery Organ Co. tubes in it)? The reverb in the Hawk is different in that the reverb control and the volume control don't seem to be connected - in other words you can turn the volume all the way down and still hear the reverb with no dry sound. Sometimes I just use it as a reverb amp with the dry sound coming out of the Deluxe. Lastly, could I take the RCA output from the Hawk reverb tank and plug it into the Deluxe to have the Hawks reverb sound come out of and be controlled by the Deluxe? Would I lose part of the Hawk's reverb's distinctive sound by doing that? Lottsa questions! Thanx!!!

Reverb tanks come in a variety of impedances (input and output) and grounding schemes. You'd have to determine the Hawk tank's configuration and figure out if it's simpatico with the Deluxe Reverb's driver and recovery circuit.

+1 Retroverbial

Look for the alpha numeric code stamped onto the reverb tank. It will contain all pertinent info.

Looks like this one from a HRDlx:

In the case of vintage Gibbs/Belton/Hammond tanks, those numbers may not be present. If not, you'll need to physically do some measuring with a DVM to determine compatibility.

Amazing information - thank you, gentlemen! Every time I come to this forum I learn something new! I'll dig into the Hawk and see what the tank says!

The Hawk's schematic may also reveal some nuggets of knowledge.
