Hey all,

I am looking at a Twin Reverb because I need something that can stay clean in clubs etc. However, I also need something that I can play at my house without blowing the windows out. That said, I read that I can remove two of the tubes from the Twin Reverb and essentially reduce the amp to 35 Watts. Has anyone heard about this or can they point me to the right forum to ask a question about this? Things like, does it work, is it safe for the amp, how is the sound changed? etc.

This is the quote: "If your playing in a small room and can't get a good sound without being too loud, try this: Turn the amp OFF first VERY important. Then remove two of the four 6L6 output tubes. One and Two are paralell with each other and and three and four are parrelell with themselves SO, remove 1 and 3 OR 1 and 4 OR 2 and 3 OR 2 and 4... understand? Now you have a 35 watt amp! Crank it up!"

Thanks,
Mike

Hi,

If you are not only looking at Tube amps, take a testrun with a Cybertwin SE.
It can stay clean a long long time , growls if you want it to and sounds sweet at low volumes

If you want some demos, look at soundclick/halfblindlefty (watch it, not to good and blues

Pulling two tube didn't reduce it that much on my 76 Twin. I would just get a smaller amp for home use. Something in the 5-15 watt range. None of them will give you the headroom of a Twin.
