How hard would it be to change a ‘68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb cosmetically into a blackface? Like, would a repro black control panel fit? Does the speaker baffle board just unscrew and slide out? When you remove the aluminum frame around the grill cloth is there a gap there or would it look ok with repro blackface cloth? Thanks! btw, thanks to all you guys who seem to know everything about Fender amps and put a lot of time and effort into these forums!!

The blackface front panel will drop on, no problem. But you'll likely have an issue swapping out the grill cloth and keeping your original baffle board. On the original drip-edge silverface models from the '60s the baffle board was reduced in both height and width by approximately 3/32" to accommodate the thickness of the extruded aluminum fascia trim. Thus, if you strip your baffle board and re-grill it using blackface cloth you'll have a visible gap around the edges where the baffle boards butts up to the sides and bottom of the cab and at the top where it meets the front panel.

It looks like you can order a blackface Vibrolux Reverb speaker baffle complete with blackface type grill cloth already attached. So, is it pretty easy to remove the baffle from the new ‘68 Custom Vibrolux by removing the screws or is it glued in which would be too much of a mess for me?

If your original is of the screw-in style, then you can un-screw it and install an alternate.

FWIW, that's the way I'd do it too -- preserve the original silverface baffle board lest you wish to change things back to stock.

Be sure to specify "aged white" cloth for the replacement baffle board.
