I got a '68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb when they first came out. When I got it I noticed the silver faceplate had a very rough finish, not smooth like my old '68 Pro Reverb. I see the newer '68 Vibrolux Reverbs do have the more authentic smooth faceplate. I'd like to replace the faceplate on my amp. Does Fender sell those faceplates as replacement parts? Is there any trick to replacing it - is it glued on or just held on by the jacks, pilot light, etc?

I'd put up a picture but I can't seem to figure out how!

Its unlikely you will find them. For Fender, the issue is counterfeiting.
For others, the issue is trademark infringement.
Unique features only add to an original piece. Celebrate it!

Front panels occasionally show up on Ebay but they are somewhat rare, especially the silverface style.

To exchange a front panel you'll need to remove the chassis from the cabinet then take off everything -- knobs, bright switches, input jacks, and pilot lamp. The controls and jacks are held fast with retaining nuts (don't forget to re-install the "beauty washers" if it's a silverface model) while the pilot lamp bezel is secured from the inside of the chassis with a large hex nut. Reverse this process to reassemble the amp and pay attention to the orientation of the control knobs as you snug those down.
