Greetings! As the owner of several Fender guitars and amps over the years, I was recently blindsided by my dealer over the warranty. When I bought my Supersonic 22 a couple of years ago, it came with a 5-year warranty, just like all my previous amps. It even said it on the card on top of the amp. Well, I'm having problems with the amp so took it back to my dealer in Canada (Long & McQuade) and was told that Fender changed the warranty to two years without telling anyone. The shop even still had a Supersonic 22 in the store that had the card that said 5 year warranty. I can't believe this. I don't think you can sell a product, stating in writing that it has a 5-year warranty, which is one of the reasons I've bought so many of Fender amps, and then retroactively reduce it and not even inform owners. Has anyone else come up against this?
Thanks!

I read 5 years warranty

What are the lengths and details of the warranty on my Fender® or Squier® instrument, amplifier or accessory product?

Is the shop an authorized service center? Take the amp to an authorized service center with your receipt and they should honor the warranty.

If you bought the amp with the 5 year warranty in place, Fender will honor the warranty at an authorized dealer (service center?). I don't have the exact verbiage/details, but if you search the Fender site, this issue is addressed (or used to be). My TRRI 5 year warranty expires this December. So far, I haven't had to use it. I'm not clear if it depends on date of purchase, but you will need the receipt.

I bought my amp in December 2017 with the 5-year warranty tags on it. Here's the first response I got from Fender:

Carlos Hernandez (Fender)

Sep 20, 12:31 MST

Hello David,

That is false information. We honor the 5 year warranty for instruments and amps purchased before 2017. We announced the new current 2 year warranty on January 2017. If you have your receipt and can provide your postal code I can refer you to a service center.

Regards,

Carlos Hernandez - Representative,
Consumer Relations /U.S. Direct Sales
Fender Musical Instruments Corp.
17600 N. Perimeter Drive, Suite 100 Scottsdale, AZ 85255

So that would indicate that even though I had the tags, I would only get 2 years coverage because I purchased it after January 2017. I emailed back expressing my concern that Fender was selling amps after January 2017 with 5-year warranty tags on them, and I received this reply:

Carlos Hernandez (Fender)

If your amp came with a 5 year warranty tag it will be honored. The receipt and serial number of the amp will be needed for warranty validation.

Regards,

Carlos Hernandez - Representative,
Consumer Relations /U.S. Direct Sales
Fender Musical Instruments Corp.
17600 N. Perimeter Drive, Suite 100 Scottsdale, AZ 85255

So that would indicate that even though I purchased my amp after they changed their warranty, I'll be covered because mine came with the tags. Now I just have to figure out how to get this confirmed for the next 3 years...

This is from the Fender site under "Warranties" It is only part of the warranty information, but clearly states that warranties are now only two years, as of January 2017.

"Effective January 1st, 2017Page 1 of 2FENDER® & SQUIER® BRAND AMPLIFIER PRODUCTS 2-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY Fender warrants that the Fender or Squier amplifier product you have purchased shall be free of any defects in parts and workmanship if used under normal operating conditions for a period of two (2) years from the date of purchase or initial lease, including footswitches, covers, speakers, cabinets, handles and cabinet hardware, except vacuum tubes are warranted for a period of ninety (90) days from date of purchase or initial lease (“Limited Warranty”). This Limited Warranty applies only to the original retail purchaser or lessee when purchased or leased from an Authorized Fender Dealer and is subject to the limitations set forth herein. IMPORTANT: PLEASE RETAIN YOUR ORIGINAL SALES RECEIPT, AS IT IS YOUR PROOF OF PURCHASE VALIDATING THIS LIMITED WARRANTY. "

Having said all that, I don't have a problem with them only offering a two-year warranty now. It's just that it was not communicated at the time of purchase, and in fact I was told it was 5 years. I'm happy that they are standing behind the product and confirming the 5-year warranty for products that came with the 5-year card, even after January 2017, but I'm still seeing 5-year cards on some new amps, so just be aware...

Thanks for the comments and help.

Note as well, the new warranty is non-transferable.
