Hi forum,

my main instrument is piano/keys, but I played guitar on and off in my life (acoustic and mediocre Strat copies) and finally decided to get me my dream guitar: a Fender American Original 60s Jazzmaster.

I'm undecided what amp to get though. Main use would be practicing and recording at home, so it shouldn't be too loud.

While watching this video I fell in love with the Fender Limited Edition '65 Princeton Reverb Celestion Greenback, but I'm afraid it would be too loud for home use? I'm not interested in heavily distorted sounds, but would this amp produce this warm full tone also at living room volume?

If not: other (better) suggestions would be very appreciated. I know there are a dedicated practicing amps, but I would prefer to buy just one amp for practicing and recording and a small solid state amp wouldn't be the best fit for this classy guitar?

Thanks for your advice!

Well; if money is no object, you can always go with the 5 watt Fender '57 Custom Champ...but you're gonna pay around a grand for it. It's a "no frills" tube amp, but a Jazzmaster guitar has a lot going on in and of itself.

Otherwise, you can look at amps with split wattage....like a 7w/20w or 1w/15w then if some time you wanted to gig with it, you'd have an option without mic'n it.

The Super Champ X2 would give you lots of flexibility. It's 15 watts, lots of effects and has a USB out for direct recording. One of the amp voices is the Fender Jazzmaster (the amp, not the guitar). It's a simulation of an extremely clean Fender solid state amp. It also has Princeton and Deluxe amp simulations. The price is lot less than the Princeton you're looking at.

Thanks for your suggestions. To start with my initial question: I assume your answers mean that you consider a standard Princeton 65 Reverb too loud for home use – and a 12" limited edition model even more?

I personally can't answer that, because everyone has their own idea of "bedroom volume". I've never lived in an apartment or condo where I share walls with other people...and my studio is under ground and far from the livingroom where my wife might be watching tv.
Princeton 65 Reverb is 15 watts tube with a 10 inch speaker, or a 12 inch speaker in the Limited Edition.
I have two amps with similar spec's.
Blues Junior with the 12 inch, and Pro Junior with the 10 inch. I can hit volumes at MY house that do not piss my wife off...and certainly never pissed off any neighbors---but my wife is tolerant, and my neighbors are an entire lawn and driveway away.
Maybe just go play through one at your nearest music store, and see how low you can turn the amp and still hold onto some decent tones.

Starfish forget what you are looking for if more than 3 watts.

Go with the Princeton and get a good quality attenuator to preserve the tone but lower the volume.

I have a DRRI that I use with a TAD Silencer both at home and for rehearsals. I can set the amp volume high enough to get glorious power tube breakup without damaging anyone's hearing!

Just found the new Tone Master Deluxe Reverb. A modeling amp that seems to get pretty close to the real thing – also at very low volumes. Not cheap for what it is, but might be a good compromise?

Nice amp but out of my price range. I'm saving my pennies for a Blues Junior.

I got the Tone Master Deluxe Reverb now – and I'm loving it: beautiful warm sound and very responsive – even at super low volumes. Exactly what I was looking for.

A very worthy home/small-gig/studio amp full of Fender tone, enjoy it and play it loud at least occasionally!

Congratulations, I'm glad you're happy with it. But, like sfceric64 said, crank it up now and then. :)

Both a pro junior iv (amazing vintage kenny burrell sound) or a dvmark little jazz will get you there! I have both and i’m extremely satisfied!
