Got a Blues Jr. about a month ago, first experience with a tube amp. About 3 out of 4 time when I turn it on, after 30 seconds or so it begins to whistle, sort of like a tea pot but not as loud. This last for 10 seconds or so and then everything appears to work ok. Is this normal for this type of amp or is this an indication that there is some sort of problem?

Welcome to the Forum.

That is not normal. I would take it back and have it checked out.

Might just be a microphonic preamp tube. While it's on, take a pencil with a eraser on the end and gently tap each tube. You'll hear the noise if it's a tube.
