I have a tweed BJ and I am thinking of adding a 57 Tweed custom delux.

Is it worth it what will I get for three times the price,

I have tried one in a store and yes the tone was much better than the BJ but of course that is side by side. Will it sound any different on its own.

No I don’t own one, but you said it yourself, it sounds better. Whether it is worth the extra money for that better sound is up to you.

The tweed does not have a tone stack. This allows it to be much more transparent than a BJr.
Its good for country, jazz and blues.
Others dime the controls and play with power tube distortion, a bit gritty for my taste.
They are good for harmonica and other instruments as well. It will definitely be a step up in tone quality.

Whoa!!!! hold on.... Apples vs Oranges

That's two entirely different amps.

BJr is probably the more versatile of the two. .. BJR easily can do a ton of different styles of music. (much easier to operate than a 5e3 on a stage)

With a few mods and tweaks, you can get a Bjr to hang with a 5e3.

I have a heavily modded Bjr that does more than just hang with my 5e3x2.

Yet, I love my 5e3x2. One can sum up a 5e3 tone stacks in two words "Articulated Dirt" Around 1-2 semi-clean, after 2 its light dirt, by 6 it's full-on Overdrive. After 6.... just more saturation. One tone knob, but the 5e3 has a semi-interactive EQ where the unused volume knob affects the Tone knob. Very Mid pronounced amp, & I know many who don't dig on tweeds because of the mids.

Apples vs Oranges.. Don't think because you are paying 3 times the price you going to get an amp you will like 3 times better, or that will perform 3 times better. You need to base your decisions on your playing style and what type of music you play... That said..... maybe wait before dropping $2k on a new 5e3 till you know if it will jive with your style and your music???.

w/ a 5e3, if you going to gig with one (and get the most out of the amp!!!) One has to know how to play (i.e. be advanced) there is a lot of working the guitar's control's to bring forth the plethora of tones the amp has to offer.

That's a lot of "Working the Mojo! on a stage. Some guys like it, some don't..

Bjr is a much easier amp to use live and takes pedals IMO much better (overall a cleaner tone stack)

The Blues Junior is absolutely NOT the more versatile.
Don't listen to that.
That is utter shyte.
The 5E3 is the most seminal guitar amplifier of all time.
It is entirely possible that more rock n roll recordings have been captured using a 5E3 than all other amps in the history of the world .... combined.
Think about that for a moment.
Google it if you must.
Do not even THINK of refusing to obtain a 5E3 if one becomes available to you and you can afford it.

+1
And if you can't afford a 5E3, build a Mojotone kit (but don't use their provided speaker, get a decent Alnico)

1957 retail for a 5E3 was $129.50. In inflation adjusted dollars, that's $1182.42 today.

If you lack the skills to build an amp Mojotone will build it for you for $1199.00.

That leaves you $800.00 for a decent speaker or upgrading components,

You'd also probably have a better built amp. Connections to switches soldered, no push on "spade" connectors. Ground connections that aren't just screwed down.

It just won't say "Fender" on it.

shyte ...??????? LMAO...

Dude, If you could turn being snarky into full-time job you would be employed for an eternity.

Yes let's google it! Well start with 5e3 vs Bjr's. We will throw out the bias BS on both sides for starters (i.e. the guys who only play a 5e3, and the guys who only play Bjrs..) We will take only the people who have both or played/gigged both.. Guess what you are going to find?

SHYTE opinions just like mine.. i.e Apples vs Oranges and a listing of their strong suites

Then just for internet shyte giggles ....... we can just google "Opinions on the 5e3" and there we will find TWO camps! One camp that thinks the amp is a one-trick pony, the other thinking it's multi-faceted.

Being such a versatile amp.... how is that?

Last time I checked the Blues Junior was one extremely versatile amp, so versatile, that a F#$K tone of working musicians use one on stage ( it's one of the reasons why Fender sells ton of them!) Its a safe bet there are more working musicians using a Blues Jr than a 5e3 on stage ... It would be pure bravado internet ignorance on your part to attempt to argue that statement isn't true.

Yep there is an opinion that's full shyte here

I can hardly wait for more of your snarky comments. Or some internet nut hanger to tag in cause they don't like me pointing out your opinion is just opinion.

You're right about one thing and one thing only.
I expressed an opinion.
The BJ being a better amp is your opinion and that's all it is.
And hey, you're allowed but so am I.
It's a free country.

FYI, like you I have owned both amps so my opinion is at least as valid as yours.
Probably more.

And for the record, I'm only snarky when people talk shyte.
My normal mode is being helpful.
If you have been getting the impression that I am normally snarky that says more about your posts (or posts you agree with) than it does about mine.

You've always been a pretty solid trooper in my book Matt.

pcalugaru, as you can see by my join date and my post count, I have been here a long time.
It might interest you to know that at one time this forum got hundreds of posts each day.
Back in those days we did have some trouble makers.
I have never been one of them.
In the 10 years I have been coming here no admin has ever chastised me.
No admin has ever taken me aside to discuss my behaviour.
No thread has ever been locked because of my actions.
Occasionally someone like you decides to take me to task over something I said and it usually has something to do with the popularity of the Blues/HR series of amplifiers ... just like now.
You are not saying anything that has not been said a hundred times by many people and it makes not a lick of difference to me.
I realize you think you're right and I'm wrong and I'm OK with that.
Just don't expect me to stand by and let you try to steer someone else away from a good decision.

Let's see, I wonder how many BJ kits will be for sale 60 years from now.
