I had been contemplating converting my Hot Rod Deluxe into a head type setup but I just could not come to terms with mutilating such a beautiful amp. Luckily I have become the proud owner of a Blues Jr. with a busted cabinet and speaker. I was wondering what are you guys thought on a Blues Jr. as a head. Would it be worth the effort besides maybe jut being somewhat unique.

Why not build a nice quality cabinet?

I have actually been considering turning my BJr into a head unit as well. As a combo the tubes seem to work themselves loose from the vibration.

If you want to spend some time reading many Blues Jr. posts someone here did build a head cabinet for a Blues Jr chassis.

Hello Cappy83,

I made a head unit for my
blues junior, pretty simple in fact.
Completly reverseable so it can
easily be a combo again.

There is a picture in another thread
I'm super happy about having done it.

As I told Mickeyb, this weekend I'll
draw up some plan and more photos.

Cheers

Mr. Bill, i seen the Blues Jr. head you made and thats exactly what I was going for. I was thinking of some thing with red or green tolex.

It would seem to me, because fender has a proven, inexpensive and well liked circut like "the hotrod". it would be a great idea to capitalize on this resourse and the reputation of the hotrod name. If the price stayed resonable fender could open a new market to the consumers thats are screamin' for a no nonsense great sounding tube head at a good price. Not to metion fenders tube amp head line up caters to only high end clientel.
I'd love to have a super sonic but I'm on a hot rod budget. I use fender amps exclusivly and will probably always will. I have 2 fender combos and 1 fender head and if they failed I would consider fender products first and formost over all others. I usually don't find myself in need of all the options offered by the super sonic.
IMHO Fender should offer a 60, 40, 15 watt in the identical layout as the deville, deluxe and the JR. I'd be first in line for a deville 60 watt head if it was offered. So I say hell yeah!

It sounds like a good idea to me...
But it will make it more expensive in the end...
Once someone has the head, now they have to get a speaker cab...
It seems like it will cost a little more that way.
But in my case it would be cool...
I have been considering changing the speaker on my Tolex BJr.
If there was a head only option I could have just got that & built my own cab & speaker.

Seeing all of the success that Epiphone has had with their Valve Jr. head, and now Blackheart jumping into the fray - a smaller / tube-powered / low-watt head head would seem to make good sense from the marketing standpoint. Besides the Blues Jr. platform, I think that the new Vibro Champ XD / Super Champ XD might offer another attractive small head package. Many players (*including myself) are running these combos through extension cabs already - with great results. However Fender chooses to do it, I think a small tube head would go over very well.

Anyone thinking a blues jr head would be great needs to take a serious look at the new egnater rebel 20........

It has great features and 20+ watts in a head with matching 112 or 212 cabinet.

Hello Herebyproxy,

That rebel 20 egnator is pretty cool
but twice the cost of a bleus jr. when
you include the cab more for the 2-12's.

Definitly worth checking out.

Cheers.
