hello,

after a decade i have my fander champ 12 in my hands again. I left behind it when i moved for space reason.

I try to switch it on, the light goes red but no sound and channel switching is not working.

Do you think there is something i can try before professional repair?

Valves are like new, i swapped a little before moving. Fender orginals.

Check your speaker and its associated wiring.

Is this an export model? I'm guessing so by the links in your sig. If so, check fuse 103.

+1 Very good observation !

If export model for Europe ? Where do you live? There are 2 fuses inside the amp.
Check with meter, eyes only may not see if good or bad

Thank you for all the replies!

The amp europe/italy version. I inspected the fuse and it looks ok, the filament is good and no sign of burn. I expect the amp light to not power if the fuse is KO, am i wrong? Amp is actually set at 60hz

The amp has only 3 valves, all are fitted and look ok at visual inspection. No light or heat is produced on the valves when i switch on the amp.

The guitar is good, i checked it with the zoom multistop that i have with me. So the cable. When i instert the plug in the input with maxed volume i do not hear the classic click/noise that is expected. Also the amp has 2 imputs and i tried several time both.

I am considering to open it and visual check it inside.

Good to know amp is use in Europe.
Europe voltage is 50 hz at 240 volts, this is not the issue if you use 60hz.
IMO you can't set at 60 hz 240 volts,

Don't set at 120 volts  YOU' LL BURN POWER TRANSFORMER

You must open the amp, there 2 other fuses
There is a fuse for tubes/ valves heater, if you see no light on tubes/ valve it must be this fuse.
There is another fuse for high voltage.
Check both.

IMO you can't set the amp at 60 hz 240 volts, Please report

If the LED comes on, the filament fuse is probably good.
I would turn over the power supply board and look for broken solder on the filament lines.

Channel switching won't work with cold tubes.

The switch in the back of the amp only selects voltage, the only 2 options are 220V or 240V.

The switch should be set to the left.

There are markings on the switch that are hard to see.

If the light comes on, but the tube heaters don't glow, then problem is more than just a fuse.

Unless you know electronics and have soldering skills, it may be time to take it to a professional. If the amp has never been serviced, it may be time for a cap job anyway. If they have never been replaced, the newest they could be is 27 years old.

Let us know how it comes out.

Ok, so i've opend the amp to check the 3 other fuses. Fuses are ok, the amp seems cleaner than i would expect but there is some bround matter around the solders in a part of the board. I've take some picture but i dont know how to share it with you.

Anyway at this point i will service it, sooner or later.

The brown matter you refer to is solder flux.

Image

That is not your problem. Even though the light comes on there is no or low voltage to the tube heaters. It may be a bad solder joint like Tim says, or maybe an issue with R104.
