Hey there !

My speaker broke up a few days ago... It was the factory one, and really liked it how it was...

So I think it's time to try some new things !

For now I put a WGS G12C/S (Kind of Jensen...), it sounds pretty good but this particular speaker is 16ohms and the Blues Deluxe needs a 8...

I'm into old blues, dirty garage, old school rock'n'roll and all that "low fi" styles with a good old fat fuzz most of the time. Nothing modern sounding.

So I'm searching for a speaker that could fit ! Jensen P12Q as they did back then ? But it seems reissues are not really loved... (Don't want to spend a fortune)

Eminence Texas Heat ? (But they say it's a bit "British", and I don't like that...) Red White And Blues ?
Find another factory speaker ?
WGS ?

What do you think ?

Thanks a lot :D

Weber's 12A150 with light doping on the surround would be an excellent choice. A more expensive option would be Celestion's Gold Alnico.

Arjay

+1 on the current Jensens being nothing like the originals.
Sadly, a good Alnico speaker is going to be like putting a set of $2,000 wheels on a '92 Corolla.
Arjay's recommendations are good, Cannabis Rex is another popular option.
If you had time, I'd say to keep your eyes open for a Red Fang on the used market, but again, those are highly sought after and not cheap.

Yup Weber seems the best bet but God they’re pricey !!! (Regular price for a good alnico though..)

Gonna keep an eye open if I find a second hand.

I’d like to avoid British sounding speakers... :/

If you got any more idea you’re welcome and thank you very much for your messages :)

This may sound like sacrilege to some people but I will suggest the tried and true Celestion G12T75.
People may try to tell you it's a Marshall speaker only but it sounds great in American amps as well.
Big, tight bottom end, punchy mids, smooth highs, doesn't flab.
Compared to other Celestion drivers it is relatively inexpensive as well.
Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Depends on what ya want...

Em's Texas Heat would be a fine choice. Smokey, very bluesy in American tone with just a touch (not too much) of the British. If ya want to throw some serious OD on it, it sizzles in a great way. A great speaker! It's got a nice natural break up and not too efficient.

I'm going to disagree with the Jensen RI commentary.

Having re-coned a butt load of speakers including Chicago Jensens (and Sica Jensen Ri's too) to my ears (after a well-documented break-in time, IMO.... the Sica/Italian Jensen Ris sound very vintage and close to the originals. (as close as any other clone out there)

Secondly ... one just can't compare a 55+yr old speaker with years of fatigue on the surround and the cone fiber to any new speaker. ( Nomenclature aside...i.e. Sica changed some of the speaker designations.) It looks like the Sica-Jensen Ris are really really close to the originals in construction. I know this flies in the face to internet lore. Just check how close Ri C12N is to the Chicago C6969 C12N. It's clear SICA or Recotton I,e, the now-defunct parent company, used the Chicago C6969 to clone and not the C8220 or the C8774. People forget that Chicago Jensen made multiple variants of damn near all their speakers

All that said .. speaker choice is indeed subjective. Myself... Not a big Fan of Webers... 40oz mag in the driver, extremely efficient (i.e. very loud) dependent on the cone choice... 12F150s or 12A150s can bey very bright with a lot of strong headroom and very little natural cone break up. T Weber loved to push lite doping on his customers. It's taught in speaker land... you get cone cry with little or no dope if ya push the speaker.... and who doesn't? Not cool!

Guess T weber liked repeat customers.
