Hi there,

My new (I've had it for 7 months) Fender Princeton amp has just recently developed an annoying static sound that is present all the time even when no guitar is plugged in and everything is turned to zero.

When turning on the amp, the sound seems to begin after about 4 seconds (I guess when the tubes have warmed up).

I've tried the amp in different rooms and turned off other appliances to make sure it's not interference.

Just wondered if any of you had any ideas? It's still under warranty, but wondered if it sounds like a tube problem or something simple (I don't think the shop I bought it from do amp repairs).

Thanks a lot,

M

It could be a tube.
Return on warranty. A fender product store must have a repair service

Tube problems are the simple problems. Diagnose by removal and substitution.
Looking at the back, remove the small tube on the right. Turn the amp on. If the noise goes away, that is the bad tube.
If the noise remains, you have a good substitute in your hand.
Substitute each tube one at a time to find a bad preamp tube. Be sure to get the 12AT7 back in the right socket.
If the preamp tubes are good, pull one power tube at a time to see if the noise goes away.

If that doesn't do it, try tightening the input and speaker jack nuts.
Then exercise the reverb connections to the tank by inserting and removing a few times. Down in the tank bag, just rotate them around.

Noob question, but how do I remove these tubes. I've pushed and turned the metal casing anti clockwise, but when trying to pull the tube out if doesn't seem to want to move and I'm scared any amount of pressure will break something. Do I have to use a screwdriver?

1- Remove the tube shield
you see a glass tube right ?

2- Pull up the tube, don't turn it, pull up straight
