Assuming the baffle is 3/4" ply, 8 wood screws directly into the baffle would hold it securely.

You could always reinforce the bond with Gorilla Glue or Liquid Nail.

Try not to get any on the speaker cone

Hi folks and thanks for all the helpful info.

I'm not concerned with ruining the amp from the resale perspective of it not being 100% stock after I modify it. I think what I will do is to build a new baffle. It is 1/2" ply from what I can see so I got a nice piece of birch ply. It might be that plywood that is slightly thicker but for sure it is not 3/4".

I'll get some grille cloth etc and try make it look semi pro. Thanks for the tip about MojoTone Arjay....I'll check them out. I found a place that has everything...Tolex, grille cloth, corners etc etc but will go check out mojo now.

I'll keep the Eminence attached to the OEM baffle and if I ever sell the VV, I'll either put the Eminence back in and keep the JBL.....or sell it to the new owner with the JBL and raise the price a bit.

This project came to a dead stop.......I took my family up to Lake Tahoe for the whole of last week and this week I started up on my old job at Seal Team.......we had a 3 month hiatus and now we are getting set to start Season 3. Prep just begun. So unfortunately a bit of a slow down. What's good is I will be able to use the 'mill' at work (where the propmakers/carpenters work........we call the woodworking area the mill. There are several table saws and compound miter chop saws, planers, drill presses, every kind of pneumatic staplers, nailers, brad nailers etc etc ......just tons of tools and stuff.....so I'll do the baffle there. I have tons of tools at home....including a chop saw, nice jig saw etc and a table saw.....but my table saw is a basic Home Depot Skil model. The saws at work are totally pro and go about 4' on the width and have tables set up behind so you can run 10' lengths plus they have side tables made so you can run with the 8' or 10' length out to the side........good stuff, excellent quality.

Thanks all.....Retroverbial, Strayedsrater, Ghost_of_ strings, Tim's Audio, stratele52 and Archtop Bill.

Arjay....... would that be 22.5º from the center of the hole for the top speaker screw.........or from one of the edges of the top speaker rib? I realize it's not rocket science and almost any eyeball amount will do.....I just want to be sure.

Guys, I picked my amp up sans speaker and it is heavy on the VV logo side.....the Right as looking from the front. It dips about 4" when I pick it up with one finger centered in the strap. To be honest.....I never noticed it being side heavy before when carrying it with the stock Eminence.

I could also just relocate the speaker hole to the left a little......but I think I will go with the 22.5º deal. Either way I’ll use the original as a template to draw the shape of the speaker hole which is round with a squared off top and bottom.

( Which I found a little odd as it ‘covers’ a bit of the cone. Not that it will affect anything in a noticeable way. But why they didn’t just increase the amp cabinet height by 3” or so so there would be a completely circular hole, no covering the speaker cone at all......I don’t know.)
