I have a 2017 BDRI and recently ordered a Hot Rod 112 extension cabinet to go with. When the cab arrived I noticed there was a distinct difference in color between the two. When I say distinct, I mean the amp is lacquered and almost an orange color, and the cab appears to have almost no lacquer on it and is pretty much yellow.

I contacted Fender via the support chat and e-mail and sent pictures of the amp and cab. I was told on both occasions that variations in color on lacquered tweed is normal. I must disagree. This looks like a completely different product line.

This may seem trite, but I am not happy about paying $1,000 for an amp and cab that don't match. Sweetwater reached out and immediately offered to allow me to return the cab, but that is such a hassle. They always make sure to follow up after a purchase and I have always been more than satisfied with them. The purpose of this post is to give a heads up to anyone thinking about getting the tweed 112 extension cabinet for their BDRI. May be best to buy retail to make sure of what you're getting.

I want to add, they sound great. If they didn't I would box the cab back up and send it back.

So tweed is fabric and it won't come out exactly the same every time. BUT I think what OP is referring to is a very heavy lacquer vs a light lacquer. It would be nice if they pick one and go with it.

1. It is a different product line, they just share the Tweed moniker.
2. Lacquer changes color over time and is a natural product of varying colors.

If you really want them to match, alcohol strip both pieces & re-lacquer them the color you want.
Or if you have good eyes/skills lighten or darken either one.

or smoke lots of cigars around the lighter one but not the darker one. Then dump the ashtray on top. Relic'd!

A look at Fender's website is a quick way to determine if the color's right (for new gear). It appears all the tweed amps and enclosures are slightly (or a lot) different in colors/shades (light to orange). The BDRI looks closest to a match to the enclosure.
