I've recently purchased a Digitech GNX3000 multi-effects workstation, and had a question regarding connecting it to my Fender Supersonic. I'll be running my Strat into the GNX3000, then out the Digitech into either the Effects Return or the Power Amp IN of the Supersonic. What would the difference be between the two....if any. With this setup, the Supersonic is being used as a power amp only....correct? Minimal amount of amp tone coloring? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks....

I no longer have my supersonic however when I did I ran my POD XT live through it and was very pleased with my tone. Believe it or not, I thought the best tone I got was when I ran it into the front instrument input. The pre amp tubes added to the warmth more then just running it through the power amp input. Please keep in mind you have to be careful not to overdrive the pre amp tubes or your tone will go to crap. My tone was more bluesy so if you're into over the top metal distortion you may be better off just going staight into the power amp input. My advice would be to experiment with your multi effect unit and try the different connections into the amp. Then you can decide which sounds best to you.

MBSurfer,
Thanks for the reply. I'm currently "overwhelmed" with all the variables the workstation is offering me. I'm sampling all the presets mainly through headphones to get an idea of what the manufacturer had in mind. This weekend I'll crank the amp at my secret facility (maufacturing area at our shop) and experiment with input options......more to come !!!!

My advice would be to get a nice clean tone straight from your guitar to the amp before you plug in the multi-effects unit. This was your amp setting should always be the same. Any adjustments would then be made to the effects unit.

MBSurfer....gotcha !!! Correct me if I'm wrong.....if I plug into the effects return of the Supersonic, I won't have any tonal adjustment......only volume afforded me by the "Return Level" knob on the rear of the amp..??
Shouldn't this give me a mostly neutral, uncolored sound?

You are correct, however like I mentioned before, I went through the front of the amp because that was the best sound to my ear. Neutral isn't always the best setting with multi-effects.
