i just wanted to know the exact sonic difference between the clean channel of a solid state and a tube amp. i have played through a tube amp (fender princeton, and fender ultra chorus, or something like that), but i can't find a difference. i have a roland cube amp, and i am just curious. i know very well the difference in overdrive! I think at low gain on the overdrive channel, my amp simulates a pretty close tube sound. but i know that tubes have warmer overdrive.

Keep listening. You'll hear it. At what volume(s) did you play these amps?

well, i play my cube at no more than 2 (that's loud enough for a bedroom, and on this amp, volume at two with 15 watts is loud enough to get my mom upset :) ) and i have played through a fender (well two fenders) at two, and it is pretty loud! Or maybe three. i think on a tube amp you have to go like midway to get that nice overdrive, no? i noticed a slight difference in sound, the tubes seem a little bit fuller, but i was really listening carefully. I also like high gain distortion on my amp, cuz at gain at ten and volume at like 1, it gets a fuzzy sound, which i like! or i can turn the gain down and switch the knob from distortion to overdrive and it has the Really, really nice blues sound.
