I just got a new 1994 Blus DeVille delivered (got it on ebay). It seems to be ok except for some crackling and volume instability when changing the volume knob. Could this mean that the pot needs to be cleaned? Once I set the volume it is fine. I also hear some faint noise comeing form one of the speakers...what could that be? Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like the volume pot needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Check the speaker for signs that the cone is coming apart, or there is a small tear in it.

I have a 1993 and had to go through it and resolder the entire board (tube sockets) and now it makes no unwanted noise at all.

I should say my good friend the electrical engineer did it for me.

I am sure however that your noise is pot related if you only get it when changing volume.

do check your solder joints from time to time, you might be suprised at how quiet your amp should be, I know I was.

Thanks guys; I'll bring it to the amp tech tomorrow. Meanwhile, here are some thumbnail photos; the amp used to belong to Brad Whitford of Aerosmith.
