Hello all,

When I went to turn off my Blues Jr today, I heard a strange cracking/popping noise which I know is not uncommon, however I powered it on again, only to be greeted by a thick buzz much louder than the white noise I normally get.

Changing the settings on the amp do not in any way affect the noise, neither does unplugging the cable from the amp. I’ve heard about loud crackly noises occurring when a tube needs some attention, however this is a smooth hum.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Look a tube issue , output tubes ? Could be preamp tube too.
Do noisetest with no guitar plugged in the amp.

Amps is new , under warranty ?

Thanks for the reply. I’m going to get the amp checked out tommorow (under warranty).

I haven’t tried changing the output tubes yet, so I will take that onboard. The thing that puzzles me is that nothing changes even without the instrument plugged in

Probably a Tube.

Blues Jrs are biased hot and go ya through tubes. I love where the amp is biased and totally disagree with the late Bill M. Best way to use a Bjr is to dime the MV and use it as a single channel amp. Totally removes that boxy'ness that so many complain about. & due to it being biased hot, if you use the right speaker you can get it to naturally break up at a decent gig volume (or at least that's what mine does)

And I've gone through a few preamp and power tubes. (no biggy, the price of gigging and practicing) I've also modded mine and it's turned into a great 1x12 combo that totally extinguishes any Gas I have for a different 1x12 combo.

So I went to the store to get it checked out. They’re going to send it out to their amp tech, and hopefully it should come back to me soon.

The only downside to visiting the store is that now I have GAS for a Jazzmaster. Time to save up some money.......
