[edit] It took a little bit for this post to be approved by a moderator, so I've learned a little since and realized the title of my post was misstated, but the basic question I have still holds. [/edit]

I’m pretty new to the idea of amplification, typically a living room acoustic player. But I do play with friends who like to plug in and would like to set myself up at home to get more comfortable with the idea of my the sound of my guitar and voice coming from somewhere else in the room. I intend to buy an Acoustasonic amp, right now thinking a 40.

One thing I’d like to consider is whether I can use this amp essentially as a PA for a 5W digital modeling amp I use on the fairly rare occasion I play around with electric guitar. I know I could mic the small modeling amp, but is there a way to directly connect the two? I’m hoping for a fuller, more room filling sound. I do not play at volumes that overdrive speakers, so any distortion coming from the small amp is via onboard effects / digital manipulation.

The 5W amp has a headphone/line out port (1/4” jack). Is the output for headphones typically compatible with the Aux-in port on the Acoustasonic 40?

Thanks in advance.

The Acoustasonic is capable of handling both instrument, and vocals.

Welcome!

A funny thing about forums -- if you write a short post, everyone asks for more details.

But if you write a long post, people just read the first and last paragraph.
----------------------
Headphone out to aux in is one of the most common ways to use the aux in. Safe to try, and should work well.

When connecting 2 "electric guitar" amps, if both amps have fx loops it's common to use the "pre out" from one amp to the "power in" on the second amp.

But even if both those amps have loops, that wouldn't be ideal in this situation.

The Acoustasonics should have a pretty hifi speaker system. The raw signal from the modeler has a lot of high frequencies that guitar speakers can't reproduce, which would sound very harsh through a full-range speaker system.

Headphone outs typically have "cab emulation" or "speaker simulation" to reduce that harshness. So that's probably the best way to connect those 2 amps for your purposes.
--------------------
If you get a loud, deep humming sound, that's a ground loop. It can happen whenever you connect amps. So don't freak out, you didn't break anything. Just turn off the amps, disconnect them from each other, and ask about fixing a ground loop.
