Hello all,
I got a 65 deluxe for Xmas and absolutely love it. Huge upgrade from my Mustang GT that I had a lot of problems with. Here is the problem, I have everything set up in our big open living, kitchen, dining room area. I play a lot of classic rock and blues type stuff. In order to get some overdrive for certain songs I have been using the Fulltone OCD, However for some stuff I would really like to get some natural tube breakup, but I can barely get the volume up to 3 without killing everyone's ears in the whole house. I have no experience with using attenuators, so first I want to make Sure that I can use one with this amp without causing damage or warrantee issues. The second thing is to ask for lower priced recommendations, I am leaning to the Bugera PS1,easy to use without much complication. It has 4, 8 and 16 ohm inputs for the 8 ohm should work I think. I want to try to push the tubes naturally with lower volume without getting complicated.
Thanks for all the help in advance.

I can only recommend what has worked for me. Read the technical notes at the bottom or call them, they are friendly and will answer any an all questions. Its made to order so it may take a few weeks.

Cool thanks, I'll check it out, looks like it's around the same price point too.

Perplexing Internet Gear Fad No# 1001

Mick Taylor of "That Pedal Show" doesn't care for them "leads to people spending even more money on gear when they don't have too."

Got to say I 100% agree!

Wouldn't it just be cheaper with the same result, just buy a Marshall DSL20C (and sound better than running a DRRI dimed) What's next? clipping the bright cap & dropping a Celestion in right? (that seems to be next according to internet gear forums)

$$ for DRRI Amp+ $$ for Attinuator+ $$ for New speaker (then clipping the bright cap on the amp = net result is reducing the resale of the DRRI even further)

When a Marshall DSL20C stock, with maybe a $20 in a cleaner less gain preamp tube. = a whole lot less $$

Not to mention.... to my ears, modifying the amp by clipping the bright cap kinda kills the classic Fender American Chime

I have been thinking the very same for my DRRI and I like what I have read and heard of the TAD Silencer.

Only one thing is stopping me from getting one and that is the Wampler Black '65 pedal that I have. It really does do an amazing job of recreating that DRRI breaking up tone when I am unable to set the amp volume higher than 3. So much so that rather than put it on my pedal board I "hide" it in the back of the amp. I run the cable from the amp input over the top of the amp and down the back and people do not realise that my fantastic Fender tone is coming from a pedal!

I can't undestand where is the problem to set the amp volume at 3 or 2

If you want a attenuator, Weber attenuator are great, I have one, an old Mass.

65 Deluxe Reverb is a great amp, keep it .
I would never change for a Marshall DSL

The 65 DRRI does indeed sound good with the volume at 2 or 3 but at that level there is none of that gorgeous Fender blackface edge of breakup tone. You have to set the volume higher to get that. An attenuator can give you the tone of 6 or 7 at the volume of 2 or 3.

I never find on most amps a nice breakup, I always prefer overdrive pedal.

I am not looking to made modifications to my amp, I am just looking to get that blackface tone, the natural tube breakup that comes from cranking the volume up. Unfortunately it's just too loud to play in the house.
I was also looking for true spring reverb, I'm not sure and I could be wrong but I believe that the Marshall is not a true spring reverb is it?
Anyway the amp was a gift so it was free So spending a little bit on an attenuator so I can get that sweet tone without blowing up my ears would be great that's all I am looking for.
The Webers do look pretty good. Glad to hear people gave had good success with them.

Have you tried using 5751 or 12AY7 tubes, in the input stages?

65 Deluxe Reverb don't have a true spring reverb ????
Are you sure ?
IMO you have a tru reverb,
I have the shematic in front of me .....But not picture of the reverb tank

The Weber Attenuator; I use it to test amps in my shop, not to overdrive amps

Sorry for the confusion, my deluxe is absolutely true spring reverb, I was saying that I didnt think the marshall has true reverb, but I am not sure about that for certain.

I bit the bullet and bought a TAD Silencer.......and I am not disappointed!

With the amp volume set at about 8 and the attenuator set to taste the tone is fantastic.

The TAD has the added bonus of a FANTA output which provides input direct to a mixing desk so avoids the need to mic the amp.
