Hello everyone, I have a chance to purchase a Fender Princeton 65 amp (not reverb) for about $100.00. The thing is I'm not finding too much info on it.

Does anyone here know anything about these amps? Is this a tube amp or another type of amp?

Thanks
Jim

IIRC that amp was made in the '90s and was of solid-state construction (part of Fender's "Dyna-Touch" line). Well-built with discrete components (ie: no IC chips), it was popular as a garage or practice amp. I'd say a used model in reasonable condition would be worth a C note.

are talking about this model?

I bought one in 2003 and still have it. 12 inch speaker. The reverb became very noisy many years ago. It can get LOUD! I have been using mine as a powered speaker only in a multi amp set up where my Princeton 65 is one side of wet only. I just replaced it in my multiAmp set up with a Tech 21 Power Engine 60. In hindsight it would have been much cheaper to purchase another Princeton 65.

The fx loop (preAmp out / power amp) in is very useful. I recorded some TV spots years ago with the preAmp out direct to DAW back in the early Line 6 POD days which sounded great.

Again, the problem with mine is noise. I expect it requires replacing some caps that are going bad. Also, the distortion/clean button is not good quality and easily broken/ unreliable.

If you are looking for an inexpensive and loud SS amp it's pretty good. Just be prepared for a noisy situation and some troubleshooting and soldering to fix it. I have never dropped the chassis on mine...so I am only guessing about the possible bad caps. Watch D Labs on youtube to see what might be required to fix a noisy one.
