Hello
,
I have a circa 2002 Fender Hotrod Deluxe 112 tube amp that has recently developed a frequency response problem. The amp sound has no low end; the output is midrange and higher. I inspected the motherboard and didn't see any blown components or swollen/leaky capacitors. I also installed new tubes. The bass knob is turned all the way up...still no low end. I understand component repair and have a schematic for the amplifier. Does anyone have an idea what to focus on?

Thanks in advance

This time of year, I have to ask if its been in sub-freezing weather for a period of time and then brought into a warm place. It can crack the speaker magnet and restrict the voice coil movement. Put your Mesa back to back with it and swap speaker plugs to find out.
But that's unlikely, lets move on. First thing is to insert a plug into the external speaker jack and excercise the switches on it. They get problematic when they're not used. If that doesn't do it, separate the signal chain at the effects loop. Plug yer guitar into the power amp In. It'll be low volume, but is the bottom end there? If its normal, then the problem is upstream in the preamp. If its the same, look downstream at the phase inverter and power stage.
Bass rolloff is controlled by cathode capacitors. Look closely at them.
From a practical standpoint, a 2002 model should have the controls cleaned and then resolder every joint. Do your maintenance before troubleshooting.
