man, what a bummer.bought a champion 100 used and used it one day and then this happened: I turned it on with it plugged in to a surge protector, an electric flash shot out of the back of the amp and then the red lights on the front panel slowly faded out and that was it. amp would no longer turn on. game over. that sucks,got it from retailer who is taking it back,but this leads to me questioning the reliabillity of this amp.I mean I have fender amps that are 20 years old and never had an issue.but this one is less than a year old since manufacturer and its dead.I heard the power supply in these stink and I am inclinded to believe it after this experience. am I wrong. I really liked the tones of the amp however!! so this sucks.

by the way, I wanted to try a fender hot rod deluxe and a local store got one just in and the guy went to turn it on for the first time and guess what similar thing, nothing he said must have a bad tube...lol

anyone have a similar experience?
Denis

Welcome to the realities of the 'new world order'.

If it's any consolation, you have *plenty* of company.

Buddy of mine has had his Champion 100 for (I'm gonna guess) about 7 or 8 years now, and hasn't had a problem at all---I play through it when I don't feel like dragging one of my amps over there.
So....like anything else (I suppose), it's luck of the draw.

And you're right about older Solid State amps; I have a '92 Ultimate Chorus, and '92 Deluxe 85...and both still work fine.

Nothing to do with your issue ;
Always check for the right fuse in a second hand amp. Some people put too powerful fuse.......
