Hey All,
Traded for a Supersonic 60 (1st version) and didn't get to try it first. That's cool...I know the risks. The reverb doesn't work and when I turn the pot up it starts to squeal around 3-4...no actual reverb...just the squealing.
-I took the tank out and checked...all wires seem intact.
-Made sure that the tank connections are corrosion-free and seated.
-Checked the tubes for microphonics...I didn't find a mic tube, but...V9 doesn't appear to be glowing. Hopefully the culprit and I'll change it.
I can't do that until tomorrow, so...does that sound like the likely cause?
Thanks all!
Backstory for the interested...
I've done quite well with trades over the years, but this one...maybe not so much. I traded a Les Paul Studio...one of green/gold from the late 90's-early 00's with the small trap inlays...ugly as S**T, but not a bad player. I was tired of having in around. Always wanted to try a Supersonic, so... Should have walked when I saw the exterior, but I was in WTF mode, so...grab n' go. Amp is pretty well-worn and there's a hodgepodge of preamp tubes, so...who knows. Power tubes are JJ's and look fairly new, but I just go ahead and change out all of the PA tubes. Hope the V9 replacement remedies the issue. Live and learn right. Hopefully a happy outcome...can always use a pedal. Anyway, on Friday I'm trading my Carr Hammerhead MkII for a Dr. Z Remedy + Cab...that'll work out much better!

I checked the tank...wires look good...contacts are clean. Tapped...doesn't seem to be a mic tube, but the tube on the far right closest to the grill (viewing from the back of the amp) doesn't appear to be glowing. I'm waiting for an 12AT7 so I can test it. Otherwise...probably to the shop...I'm sure it could use a going over anyway.

So...interesting. This buckethead has all 12ax7's in there...no 12at7's...there's a start.

"I checked the tank...wires look good...contacts are clean"

Ask before ;

1- You did not put tank far from the amp to test ?
2- Did Reverb tank is in a tank bag or not ?
3- 12AT7 ; did you mean reverb send use a 12AX7 not 12AT7 ?
4- Wire ; I don't think it is the issue, many bad wire may look good , more test are needed to know

I appreciate your help!
1-No...didn't try isolating the tank (see below)
2-Yes...it's in a bag.
3-ALL of the pa tubes are 12ax7's...there are NO 12at7's at all.
4-True
Here's a nice little extra...and why I didn't try isolating the tank...
Turns out this "person" rigged a blown fuse with aluminum foil so that amp would power up when I switched it on. So...until I change the fuse...no more experimenting.
Given that...I may just have an amp tech give it the once over...who knows what else is going on in there?

12AX7 might be the issue 12AT7 is a must.

First thing when I receive a amp, I check the fuse, some time I find a too powerful fuse.

I *STRONGLY* suggest you find a new trading partner.

Well...like I said in the beginning...I usually have great success trading and I enjoy it. I was lazy and didn't follow my own protocol. It's on me.
I have a good amp tech, so...I didn't lose money, I didn't burn the house down, and I got rid of the green mawhnsta. It's all good.
Tomorrow I'm trading my Carr Hammerhead Mk II for a Dr. Z Remedy w/ master + 2x10 cab, so overall...a good week.

Sometimes that can work to your advantage. That was exactly how I got my Super Reverb. My friend said he already tried to get it working and it was just toast. We used it as a speaker cabinet for a long time. Years later I pull the fuse holder and go ... No way. Went out and got the right fuse and it fired right up.

I had a SS60....Now just bought a used SS22. My amp has two 12at&’s for the reverb. Though the tubes tested as “Good” one tube was microphonic causing some issues...Try replacing the tubes!
