I've had my DRRI for almost 5 years and I love it. I play it with a Strat and that Fender/Fender combination is just perfect for me.

It is generally acknowledged that the DRRI is a good platform for pedals but I find it takes some better than others. The ones that work best for me are a Mad Professor Royal Blue overdrive, Free The Tone MS-Sov and Maxon VOP-9. But I have found that a much more extensive range of pedals work with it, for my tastes, if a 5751 tube is put in V2 (assuming you are using the vibrato channel).

For low volume playing at home I use a Wampler 65 Blackface pedal. It does a very good job of reproducing the DRRI tone.

The Wampler is also an excellent choice -- their stuff is often under-rated.
