Web on-line price seems to run 574$us-674$us, in all three of these chains..
Going in-store in person you might get better deal from them

Link is to cheapest on-line version of the amp I found at each store.

Even with the price increase I would still say its hard to beat for the money.

I just went to Guitar Center and they've got them brand new (not scratch & dent) for 450.00.. S'water has them for 475.00.. I'll be picking one of these up, unless I can get a really good deal on the DRRI.. :)

I paid $450 back in May 08.

I've had a blues jr. for about 3 years. It is a fine amp, though not great. I recently upgraded to a deluxe reverb, mostly because I find the bottom end of a BJ to be too boxy. No matter how you eq it, by comparison with the DRRI or even a PRRI, it is seriously boxy. I also think the BJ lacks the chime of other fender amps. I made the mistake of taking my BJ to a jam and A-B'ing it with a super reverb. Big mistake. I could never get past the boxiness of the amp again. Like I said, fine amp for home use, just not great in any way. I know a lot of people mod their BJ's, but by the time you get done modding you are approaching the price range of a used DRRI.

No BS.. I was in there again today and the price on the sticker was 449.99 The black and the creme color amps). I personally liked the NOS version of the BJ (the light brown w/the Jensen 12" speaker). It does sound different. I asked the GC salesman about it and then he said that actually the price got raised by 20 bucks (when he checked the stock). Which is still a pretty decent price..
Sweetwater wouldn't budge on there 599.00 sticker price either. No price match with GC or nuthin. So, I guess I'll be sticking with my '00/'01 Fender Stage 100 (solid State) instead of going "all-tube".. For now, of course :D

Plato_the_wise,
What did you mean when you said that the stock speaker has too much harsh beam/shrill?

I was reading this thread before I went home for lunch. I plugged in my MIM strat and started playing my Blues Juinor and I noticed that there was additional background noice behind the guitar, especially, when I turned it up and put in more from the volume knob. Is this what you were referring too?

I bought this Amp new from the GC website on March 2008 and its been great, but today the reverb broke and I have a loud feedback noise instead. I read this is a common problem for the Blues Jr. but come on after 1 year? I guess the questions is, is it worth trying to return it to GC, is it an easy fix?
Thanks
Mario

I have had my nos blues jr for some time now. It's great for every thing (recording, gigs, and just messin around) . It's way louder than I thought it would be. You can turn it up to 12 and I'll play gigs with for about 50 people, normally in a big 2 room bar and I only have to turn it up to around 7 and it's blasting then. I love it but just recently it has stated shorting out and one of the el-84s turns fire red all over. Does any body know what it is becuase I dont.

I've got one I bought used a couple years ago and it's a great home/practice tube amp. Mine is one that was made in Mexico and is the blonde color. I paid $300 for it then and has been well worth the money. I also bought a $15 foot switch for it.

I know how you feel, the Blues JR. NOS is an awesome AMP, when it works... mine right now is at the 'closest' Fender authorized repair center (40 miles and a toll booth away). This is the third Fender product I have to send to a repair center, my 2004 American 50th Anniversary edition had a broken pod and before the Blues Jr. I had a G-Dec which I had to return to the store since it broke after a month. The second G-DEC only lasted a year before it broke, the preset loops did help me a lot with scales, but it seems that these days you have to spend a lot more to get quality products.

I don't know for a fact but I've heard from a respected poster on this forum that the Blues Jr's made in Mexico are more reliable than the newer American ones.
Disclaimer: this is not a MIM vs MIA thing!

I dont like mine a 96 MIA. Its biased way too hot. The volume is maxed at 4, theres no difference between 4&12. The reverb is noisy and is so weak i went and bought a behringer pedal. Theres no variety in the tone/eq controls. The gain is garbage. The amp is nothing but woofy in the midrange. The eq and reverb dont do anything when the amps set clean. Yes ive changed the speaker and its been revalved with low current draw JJ's and svetlana ecc83s. Those first ones were terrible amps. I'm given to understand fender nearly admitted fault with them and decided to re-design the amp to the cream pcb series, that they build in mexico.

As soon as i can find someone to take it off me for £200 its gone.
