Hi, I have a stock BB15 combo with the V type Celestion speaker in it and want to try a G12M Greenback. However, the V speaker already comes very close to one of the EL34 tubes and the Celestion specs say that the Greenback is 7mm deeper. So, on the face of it I don't think the Greenback will fit. But, I notice that the special edition BB15's (like the Midnight Oil) have G12M's fitted (and I even saw one described as having a G12H, which is deeper again).

Does anyone know whether the G12M will fit in my BB15, or do the special edition versions of the BB15 combo have a modified cabinets or chassis?

Thanks for any info on this.

Expert on the forum never read "Unanswered Post" like I do . I don't know why :?:

Anyway with my answer, they will come

Best is you take your own measurements to see if a G12M speaker will fit.

You write the original speaker comme very close to one EL34 ; how much mm ?
G12M is 7 mm ( 9/32" ) deeper

I think you mean EL84's, whichever speaker you decide on I hope you consider a lower wattage model say maybe in the 30-50 watt range. The depth shouldn't be an issue, it's the width/shape of the magnet housing that usually creates the issues. You may have to rotate the speaker to avoid hitting the housing or for the best clearance from output tubes. Sometimes deeper is better when tube clearance is a problem.
I agree w/ stratele, take measurements on your amp and then compare the dimensions provided by speaker manufacturers websites and if they don't provide enough information-Contact them with questions.

Hi, thanks for the replies and yes, I meant EL84. So, I did take measurements and compared to specs of speakers I shortlisted after reading some more reviews and listening to sound samples. Ended up with a Jensen Stealth 65 and am really happy with the change in tone. Obviously a subjective thing, but just what I was looking for - more subdued mids and top end, combined with a slightly heavier bottom end.

The comment about the issue being more to do with the width/shape of the magnet housing than the overall depth was spot on. In my case the power tube was close to the outer edge of the magnet cover on the stock Celestion and although the Jensen is actually slightly deeper, the cover was really easy to remove and the magnet assembly itself is about half the width of the cover. So the clearance now is actually more than I had with the stock speaker...about 20mm instead of 3mm.

Just sounds great now...really happy.
