So, as I'm getting older and not gigging as much and at smaller venues I didn't really need the 410 configuration of my HRD, neither did I need its weight and size. Having looked around at alternatives, mainly the blues deluxe reissue and the costs of changing my much loved amp I decided to convert it from a 410 to a 210. Its been a great sounding amp and has never let me down so it has a lot going for it. I just love the clean sound and the headroom that it has and the way it takes pedals.

The job itself was relatively straight forwards, peeled back the tolex where needed from the sides and bottom of the amp, cut about 6 inches of the sides to reduce the height, re cut and jointed the bottom back on, made a new speaker baffle board, cut and refitted the speaker grill cloth and fitted two Celestion G10 Greenbacks. All the tolex once cut down to size glued back on nicely and to look at you wouldn't know that the work had been done. It just looks like a smaller than normal HRD.

As for the sound, its absolutely incredible. The Greenbacks perform really well and I struggle to notice the difference in the 410 compared to the 210. I'm obviously not in a position to do an A/B test as I no longer have a HRD 410 to compare it to. The Greenbacks are a much smoother sounding speaker than the stock Fender's anyway and Celestion do market the G10 greenbacks as the 10 inch speaker that thinks its a 12 inch.

Weight wise not a great deal of difference, only difference being two 10 inch speakers and a bit of wood, but it is lighter which helps but size wise it's so much easier to carry about.

Just thought I'd share this with you in case anyone else is thinking that the 410 HRD is a bit too heavy and too big.
