Okay, so everyone knows Twin Amps weigh the same as a small car :D However Fender only put one carry handle on the top, making it hard to share the load and carry the amp between two.

I've been thinking about putting handles one on each side ... anyone do this ?

What handles should I use ? I'm thinking like the original handle on the top ...

... or maybe something like this ...

... but would those handles cope, as they are meant for vertical pressure (being pulled up on) not sideways pressure. Anyone know of a better (rigid) handle ? I don't want to rip apart the side of my amp.

Finally, would drilling small holes in the wood side of the amp invalidate the warranty ?

Thanks !

p.s. hello, first post, /waves

Those are good questions. I was thinking about building a rolling dollie for mine. Let us know what you do. ( don't know if dollie is spelled right) :?

The thing about a dolly (sp?) or using the casters that come with the Twin, a lot of the time you cannot use them when going to a gig (rough ground, steps, stairs etc) and even if you can I still worry about all the jiggling and vibration on the valves (esp. going home, when they still might be warm)

You're absolutely right, but I don't gig so mine is just rolled room to room. Fender does need to think abuot us old guys (me) . If I do take it to one of our family gigs/get togethers, I have my son pack it. :) My son plays bass/guitar ,brother-in-law guitar, and my sister plays drums. The rest of the family plays anything they can get their hand on.

I think the sideways pull may possibly hurt your hands, and the metal covers may cut the handle itself. Forget the dogbone handle.

I know about the weight because I've had one for the past 30 years.

The suggestion I have is a rough one. I would install or have installed something like this http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=482884 you'll have to check the clearances inside the cabinet. The handles will sit pretty flush too on the side of the cabinet.
Good luck.

Yeah, looks like you would have to cut out a hole in the side of the cabinet. I did not see how big it would have to be. I wonder what that would do to the integrity of the side wall? And like you said, what about the warranty. Hmm! I don't know. :?

I'm not sure about the warranty. I really don't think it would hurt a thing structurally. The big question is do you really need a Twin? Mine really doesn't really leave the house unless I'm doing a big venue. I've been doing this way too long and also hate dragging it up stairs and across rough terrain. There are other handles available. This one may work.

Just be sure to fun the bolts through the cabinet. Anyway you look at it, the Twin is a heavy, awkward beast.

That's exactly what my wife said to me when I bought it. "Do you really need that thing!" I don't have the problem of playing different venues. I doubt anyone would pay to hear my noise. I do have a Blues Jr. but my daughter and son-in law have claimed it. Lucky I live out in the woods as the twin is also a very loud amp. I just wanted it, I guess I'm spoiled! :) Will just continue sliding it room to room.

Thanks for the replies guys, keep the ideas coming !

Good call on the Ernie Balls, will check them out.

Have looked at the recessed handles ... it's one thing drilling 8 holes, it's a whole other ball carving honking great holes into the side of my beloved amp (plus I think Fender WOULD go fruit loop !)

Do I need a Twin ? Well I've got the ruddy thing now ! ;-) Also, I love LOTS of clear headroom, and in one gig I go from playing an acoustic with a very clean sound, through a punky strat, all the way to a very heavy distorted sound on a Les Paul. It's taken me a while to find one amp which does all of the above to my satisfaction.
