A interesting argument broke out on a different forum i belong to so i figured I'd ask here.
The deluxe reverb has a external speaker Jack
And people seemed confused on its use.
The consensus over there was the total load on the amps output HAS to be 8 ohms.
But the specs I looked up said the internal speaker is 8 ohms and the external Jack is wired in parallel.
I'm thinking Fender knows that using the Jack is going to change the resistance from 8 ohms to something else.
Others figured you should never use the external JACK!??
Thoughts?

No, the design parameter is eight ohms.

Doubling or halving that (16Ω or 4Ω) should present no hazard to a Deluxe Reverb in good repair whether vintage or re-issue.

Bingo.
There will be some efficiency loss, but the dispersion from the additional drivers will offset that.

The two things to remember
Never to run a TUBE amp on an open circuit. Some amps are actually designed to short the output to ground when the speaker(s) are unplugged. It'll run hot, but there will be no permanent damage. Running the output open will cause the voltages in the tubes to rise and they will arc internally... boom.

Never run a solid state amp into a shorted circuit. An open circuit will cause no issues, but a short circuit will overheat the output transistors.
