Yep, I just purchased an SE in Mar 2018 to go along with my CT First Edition. I find my first edition does sound better than the SE....although, as I was saying last week on the gear page forum, my new to me SE is very clean and might just need breaking in.

Also, I am using TouchOSC for remote control over my Cyber Twins; controlling MIDI CCs and sending SysEx which is really amazing, IMO. There have been a lot of folks asking what happened to General Cyber Systems' Cyber Commander, yet TouchOSC covers a lot of bases for remote control.

Here is my current set up:

Hello to All,
I’ve been a proud owner of a Fender Cyber Twin SE (CTSE) since 2007 and used the Cyber Commander software (CC) since 2010. When I retired the first time, I got back into playing electric guitars. The CTSE gave me a way to explore amps and effects without using pedals.

I want to discuss 2 topics:
1. Why the CC software may not work on Windows 10.
2. Access to the CC software.

Topic 1: I started running the CC software on Windows XP using an EMU MIDI connected to USB. Later I switched to the MOTU Fastlane USB device. The CC/CTSE combination operated well but would hiccup from time to time requiring a restart of the CC/CTSE connection. In 2012 I bought a HP Pavilion laptop running Windows 7. It has 4 USB ports. The CC/CTSE combination worked fine depending on which USB port I used. I ignored this at the time because it worked. When Windows 10 came along with pressure from MS to upgrade, I luckily decided to not upgrade to Windows 10. In 2018, I bought a HP Spectre laptop with a solid-state disk drive. (super-fast; boots in 2 sec, shutdowns in 2 sec) And guess what, the CCSW/CTSE setup stopped working. I kept my old laptop and use it only for the CTSE.

But the Windows 10 thing bothered me and I began to investigate. (I love a technical challenge) First I searched the web for clues. Everything I found suggested Microsoft was to blame and it had something to do with the MIDI drivers. By luck I had a working Win 7 laptop and a nonworking Win 10 laptop, which allowed me to perform back-to-back testing. So I instrumented both laptops with MIDIOX and MIDIYoke to capture and compare the MIDI streams. What I discovered is that CC software works fine on a USB 2.0 port but hangs up on a USB 3.0+ port. My Win 7 laptop has 1 USB 2.0 port that worked fine and 3 USB 3.0 ports that would not work. My new Win 10 laptop has only USB 3.0+ ports. The strange thing is during the setup process the communication between CC & CTSE is identical with 2 exceptions: On the Win 7 laptop CC sends extraneous SYX commands before & after the setup. While on the Win 10 laptop CC sends an extraneous SYX command before the setup and freezes after the setup; menus, buttons, dropdown boxes, etc., no longer operate. The MIDI communication back from the CTSE is identical on both laptops. I’m still looking at this. Stay tuned…

In a forum someone mentioned that they had no problem with the CC software on Win 10. The key question is exactly what type of USB HW port were they using? I could update my Win 7 laptop to Win 10 and prove this theory, but I won’t risk losing the capability to run the CC software.

Currently I am investigating the use of Bluetooth MIDI hardware on Win 10 to avoid the USB problem. I’ve been able to communicate SYX commands to the CTSE and get appropriate data back. The next challenge is to get the CC software talking to the BT port. It involves connecting virtual MIDI cables (MIDI loops) to the CC software inside Win 10. I’ll keep you posted.

I'm also reinvestigating the CC software on my new laptop. After a year of Win 10 updates, the CC software now completes the setup and runs, but anything changed on the CC screen does not get sent to the CT.

Topic 2: I purchased the CC software in 2010 and had to repurchase it in 2012 for some reason I don’t recall. I have the installation file, user manual and an activation key. I would like to make this available to all CTSE owners but I need the community’s help to figure out any legal jeopardy with the EULA that I agreed to when I purchased the software. The CC software was an asset owned by General Cyber Systems, Inc. in Quebec, Canada. They were incorporated in 2008 and dissolved in 2015. The company directors were John Sudenny & Donato Paolucci. The CC software is an asset that may have been sold or kept by someone and could still be treated as intellectual property under copyright protection. Since I’m retired, I need to be careful to avoid any legal risk.

I welcome any comments or suggestions. Does anyone know how many CTSE’s were produced?
I had posted an earlier version of this note on thegearpage forum.

Hey LarG,
Having never previously owned and therefore never used CC, I found another solution and have made a remote control for ipad which is a game-changer afaiac.

I spent a couple of years trying to track down CC. Another CC actually did what you are offering for me, but even with his registration key added directly to the registry, GCC activation was required and CC would not run.

Now, IMO, the ipad remote control is a wonderful solution. PM me and I will share the remote control with you. You would require an ipad on Midi Designer Pro 2 app.

Further, if you somehow know the SysEx command for saving a CT Program from all your research, I would greatly appreciate knowing that code to add to my remote control :-) My remote control does not change CT programs or manage them. Have a look at my past threads if interested.

Good luck with your quest. Afaiaa, even the CCS owners/creators have no way to get CC working due to their copy protection scheme they employed.

Yes I bought the 1st CT SE w/foot controller when they first came out as the original CT was retired. I liked it so much I bought a 2nd SE also w/foot controller.
