Can anyone clarify for me whether after playing this brand new amp if when I place the amp into standby, the loud popping sound is normal for this amp? Seems abit disconcerting for a new amp to be popping like that when placed into standby.

Your amp is perfectly normal. The Deluxe in the 68 line does pop when using standby but it won’t hurt anything. Although many of us use standby when we take a break, technically you should turn your amp on in standby, let it warm up, and take it off standby. Turn the volume to zero when you take a break. Same difference. You have a super great amp enjoy it

Normal,

A easy mod a tech can do, is to put a 0.0047 mfd capacitor on the stanby switch. This stop the pop.

When you need to power off amp at the end of the gig, you can use On/ Off switch before stand by switch.

Agreed.
The main purpose of the standby switch, other than to squelch the amp during breaks, is to prevent HVDC from being applied to the plates before the tubes are warmed up.
There is much debate whether this is a problem or not, and many amps don't have standby circuits.

IMO, most of them , if not all, are low budget amp. It is more expensive to add a Stanby switch.

Having a standby in the circuit of any tube amp is always a plus. Is it always necessary, maybe not. But it's never detrimental.
