Hi! I have a Fender Performer 1000, which had stopped outputting the amplified guitar sound, and only outputting quiet noise. After reading up on this, I opened it up and took out several ceramic resistors, which had brown marks around them on the board, and the two small diodes which had the same. I tested all of these with a multimeter, but they were all fine! So I replaced them all, thinking that it might have been cracked solder joint, or similar, causing the issue.

The amp does, indeed, now work!...

but R37 - R39 (http://schems.com/bmampscom/fender/Roc_ ... ematic.pdf) near the 12ax7 are now getting hot enough to start smoking after less than a minute, and I haven't had a full play with it to see if everything is working properly or not because of this.

Does anyone have any idea or knowledge of what might be causing this? I have good soldering skills, a multimeter, and a basic grasp of electronics, but nothing advanced...

Cheers if you can help!

Post picture here for more answer.

These 470 ohms 5 watts resistors are for 12AX7 heater voltage. They help to drop voltage from 40 volts to 6.3 volts.
Are resistor value are good ? Ohm reading need always to disconnect one side.
Are 6.3 volts are ok ?
Replace 12AX7

The resistors feed the tube filament and the voltage is regulated by the two zener diodes. If you pull the tube and the resistors still overheat, then the zeners may be shorted or drifted.
I would replace the resistors and zeners. Thats a hardworking circuit there.
