Hi there. This is my first time posting. I am a DIY troubleshooter of my equipment and I have become stumped. I have been playing through a 1997 Hot Rod Deluxe, which I love. I recently got a great deal on a Mexico made model that I bought as a backup. The only problem is that it is louder than the other. I even used a separate preamp and plugged it into the "power amp in" of the effects loop and it was still louder. So my question is; Does the Mexico made amp have a louder power amp stage? I do know that the circuit boards have some differences. Like the USA model has 1996 printed on the circuit board and it matches the schematic that can be downloaded. The Mexico model has 2002 printed on the circuit board and I can't find that version on the internet. I am an electrician so I can understand any kind of troubleshooting tips, if you have any. Thanks

I'm just amazed there's any such thing as an American-made HRD!

I thought it was pretty cool. Says Made in USA on the label. They moved production to Mexico in 2002.

Same for me, but I found the schematic, it was included within the amp litterature :)

2002 edition from mexico. I can make a scan if you want it!

However I'm seeking after a schematic of an emerald green version....

So i'm asking for help too :)

Best Regards.
Largol.

The Hot Rod amps used to be known as F.A.T. (Fender American Tube)
amps.

Electronically I believe they are the same. The only difference in the Emerald Green is the color of the Tolex and possibly the speaker.

Nope, someone told me there's a difference in the preamp section of limited
edition models, such as the emerald green...

Maybe Shane Nicolas could give us an help?

Never heard that one. The dealers tell me it's all cosmetic except for the Jenson speaker in the Limited Edition models. The speaker could be an upgrade depending on your ears that will make the amp sound different. Unless they use different preamp tubes. I really don't believe they changed the construction of the amp for an LE at that price point.

Ok, so I'm satisfied. I have a regular one, black tolex.
I still think the emerald green to have a great look, but I won't change my amp :p)

Hot Rod Deluxe is still my favorite amp, the clean sound is excellent and the 2nd channel is great too with subtle mods!

I have a HRDlx too. Had lots of problems with it. For the money it's not a bad sounding amp. I've been playing for over 40 years and had a lot of amps. Some longer than others. I have a 76 Twin that I've had since it was new that's amazing, but I don't do many large venues anymore so I don't use it that often.
Fender makes a lot of amps, try them all. The Deluxe Reverb Reissue is a great amp. I have a 74 Champ Amp that I record with that's an incredible sounding recording amp.
If you think the HRDlx ig great, you'll be blown away by the more professional amps.

I have a White Lightning LE HRD. I've heard that the power tubes are different from the "standard" HRD. That they might start to break up a bit earlier. Any truth to that one?

Hey Fenderheads-

I have a HRDlx (2000 American Made) and I am very happy with it EXCEPT FOR- The Input jacks suck ! Those plastic sons of Britches are cheap.

Other then that very nice Amp with lots of great headroom- Its like Butter Baby....

The Freeze

The Twin Reverb, Super Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb, The 57 Deluxe 5e3 reissue, and the Deluxe Reverb Reissue. Almost any of the older Silverface, Blackface and Tweed amps that are point to point are nice too.
IMHO the Hot Series amps are not professional quality amps. I know because I own one. It will probably be landfill or a 5e3 clone conversion amp before the warranty runs out. Just my experience with it. Like I said before, I have 40 years of professional and semi professional playing under my belt.

If you gig a lot, I have been told that using a HRD won't hold up. It was my first amp 3 years ago and is now my backup to my Blues Deville 410. I have not had any problems with the amp and have used it on some gigs. (I don't gig alot) It is a great amp and I like the tone I get from it. Unfortunately, Fender has decided that they are making their amps as cheaply as possible in Mexico. Plastic inputs and the cheap soldering to name a couple (A trend started by Leo by the way). I don't know anyone other than me who has one that hasn't had some kind of modification done to fix the flaws Fender has buit into the production. I guess Fender believes that it doesn't matter, owners always find a way to fix the problems and seem happy after doing that. I guess that is good enough for Fender to. Fender makes a lot of different amps and I guess they use some of the same materials in all of them. I just feel when you spend $700 on an amp, it should be better built with better parts than the $300 amp.
