Hi all, I play in a rock band, instrumental music only. The most we will be doing is gigs at places like a small craft brewery or dive bar.

I’d like something I can use to practice and gig but also something that can hopefully be used at home.

I’m leaning towards a Hot Rod Deville 212 but am also considering a Blues Jr.

The Deville seems like it’ll have a bit more stretch and is in the same price range. I’m only considering buying used. Thank you!

Hot Rod Deluxe is a great amp too,
Buying used Hot rod amps ; amp may need to see a tech for new output tubes and bias and check for any burn resistor.

Check for the right fuse, sometimes peoples put a too powerful fuse and amp is not protected = burn Power Transformer

Yeah my first thought is Hot Rod Deluxe, not DeVille. I really like the DeVille - especially the 4/10 version. But it's a super-powerful big heavy amp. A HR Deluxe would be better for home use and they are plenty loud.

I try a HR Deluxe, I fix one for customer, it is a very good amp.

For more and easy volume control I put a 12AY7 in V1 to replace the original 12AX7.

I'd suggest a Deluxe Reverb before any of the HR series of amps.

BIG +1!

They're a lot louder than their 22-watt output would imply and they're built significantly sturdier than the HR series.

yeah I keep hearing how great the Deluxe Reverb is, but haven't had a chance to play through one. It seems to be the amp of choice in that power range here on the Fender forum.

One other option (people might throw tomatoes here, but I'm brave):
Vox AC15C2 or AC30C2. I know someone who uses the 15 model. It's good and loud and the tone is so creamy smooth.

Welcome to the Forums, Teletubbycaster. I completely agree with the 65 Deluxe Reverb. I never owned one but I used one at my local music store several times and loved it.

This link is an amp buyers guide from Sweetwater that may help give you some direction. Happy hunting.

Speaking of Hot Rod series, I know a professional guitarist who is main amp is a Hot Rod Deluxe . I see him playing guitar with this amps in my home.

I do a complete check up on this amp, nothing to fix after 4-5 year of giging

stratele52, I used to play the east coast "oldies" circuit. I've played in shows with some well known acts such as Chubby Checker, Neil Sedaka, Lesley Gore, Petula Clark, The Tokens, The Teenagers, Shirley Alston Reeves (of the Shirelles), Sha Na Na, etc. Out of all the amps I saw those guitar players using, the HR Deluxe was easily the most often used. I remember one guy plugged an $8000 Gibson into that amp. And then you go to your corner bar and you see it there too.

... and if people are so happy with the HRD (or the BJr for that matter) ... just think how much happier they could have been.

The mind boggles.
