I'm a beginner guitar player and up til now I have been learning on my Martin. I just bought a MIM Telecaster and I'm looking for a good amp in the $300 -$400 range. I don't play in a band so I don't need an amp for the stage. Also, I live in a condo so I have to respect my neighbors. I'm currently playing mostly Classic Rock and Country songs. I would also like to learn to play the Blues.

Can someone recommend a good amp for a beginner player? Any and all advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

I would go with a Super Champ XD. It's tube driven, has some bells and whistles and it's around 300 bucks. It's also 15 watts. If it's too loud, you could try the Vibro Champ XD. It's only 5 watts, but has a lot of bells and whistles too.

You would have to try them out and see what you like. The Champion 600 is cool too, but is as bare bones as you can get. It's pretty much a one trick pony.

Welcome to the forum.

I would go to a guitar store or two and look around at what is your price range. Make a list. Go home and look them up on the internet and find out what you can about them. Ask questions.

Go back to the guitar store, ask the salesperson if there is someone there that can demo any of the amps you like. Just tell them you are a beginner. Be very cautious of them try to over sell to you.

Great guys. Thanks much for both of your recommendations. As a beginner, I'm lost on amps. I'll take a look at the Super Champ and others too. I'm just not sure of what to look for in a good amp.

Thanks again.

I should stick to Tube amps? What about combos?

It's just my opinion but I believe the all tube amps give you a richer and fuller tone. Check out the specs on the blues jr.

LOL, that's exactly where I was going to go too. I'll be careful and bring someone. Thanks for the advice.

Your neighbors would appreciate a smaller amp. I have a 5 watt Champ 600 that I use as my main "home" amp. If it's really late I plug into a 57 mini twin and use the headphones.
Other than that, check out the VibroChampXD, also 5 watts.
Good luck!

I chose the Vibro Champ XD over the SCXD because I didn't need the extra power and volume. I live in a condo so I have to keep the volume down and I record with it so the VCXD was perfect for me.
